Good Morning.

I'm posting this the day after in a very sore state :). A long day, to say the least. I left the apartment at 6:15am and didn't return until 10:05. The trip was about 1.5 hours each way and I worked for 12 straight hours with a total of maybe 25 minutes in breaks.

I detailed for a client of mine from last year. Marco had me out to challenge myself to do four cars for him. It consisted of 4 exteriors, 3 interiors, and 2 engines (not all pictured). Thinking that I would never finish, I employed Patrick_Holland for half of the day. He arrived a little after lunch and we were able to slightly exceed our goal of finishing at 8pm; we finished at 7:30pm.

The vehicles were located in Queens, NY. From my experiences, these vehicles take the most abuse in the entire country. Even though two were done last year, they had heavy fallout, overspray, tar, etc. In an understatement, we had our work cut out for us.

First up, the Maxima.

You can piece together the subtle mods for yourself, but as far as paintwork, the car was in pretty nice shape. Moderate swirling, but none of it was deep. The horizontals had heavy fallout and rail dust, though. My finals were:

-CG Extreme Wash

-Zaino Z18 Clay

-Hi-Temp Extreme Cut and Optimum Car Polish (2 lines, side-by-side) via rotary and LC Cutting Pad @ 1500 rpm

-Blackfire Ceramiclear Finishing Polish via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1200rpm

-Z6 wipedown

-Zaino Z5 Pro (ZFX'd)

-Z16 on tires

-CG VRT cut 2:1 in wells; full strength on trim

Next was the Durango.

This truck had HEAVY overspray and chewed through almost an entire bar of clay. The swirls were minimal, thank goodness. Finals were:

-CG Extreme Wash

-Meguiar's Aggressive Overspray Clay

-Optimum Car Polish via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1200rpm

-Z6 wipedown

-Zaino Z5 Pro (ZFX'd)

-Z16 on tires

-CG VRT cut 2:1 in wells; full strength on trim

Next, a 240SX (sleeper).

Heavy staining and tar buildup. The car is 14 years old, but not in terrible shape. This detail is pretty much "holding over" the owner until the project is complete. Finals were:

-CG Extreme Wash

-Meguiar's Aggressive Overspray Clay

-Optimum Car Polish/Poorboy's Pro Polish via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1200rpm

-Z6 wipedown

-Zaino Z5 Pro (ZFX'd)

-Z16 on tires

-CG VRT cut 2:1 in wells; full strength on trim

Lastly, the main event, a Ford Mustang.

When the owner pulled in, I thought to myself, "this is going to be a longgg day". The car was barely black, but more of a dull grey. Contaminants, swirls, holograms, ferrous oxide, burnt paint, oxidation, you name it. Patrick and I made it happen with this one...

-CG Extreme Wash

-Zaino Z18 Clay

-Hi-Temp Extreme Cut via rotary and wool pad @ 1500 rpm

-Optimum Car Polish via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1200rpm

-Z6 wipedown

My back would really hurt after a day like that. Nice work though! I especially like the Max and Stang.

mustang is AMAZING!!! :2thumbs:

Thank goodness for High Temp products and a rotory. I don't do a car without them!!

Damn Sean, you had your work cut out for you on that Mustang.

Great turnaround on that Mustang.

All in all, great work Sean. I know Marco is happy!!

Master detailer!!!

It’s so refreshing to see close-up and TRUE representation of your work in photo’s. Who is the big guy in the photo?

In your during picture, you are buffing with rotary. It looks like you have very little product on car. I am learning rotary buffing and I have to use TONS of it to make it (Meguiars #83/#82) not dry out in the first 20 seconds.

Explain rotary technique, please? Many thanks for your experience!

Excellent work, Sean! I know how much competent help can make the job go quicker, good to see Patrick assisting you. :)

Steve: No clue :). He said low 4s to 60mph, but he hasn't been to the track due to a severe lack of suspension, wheels/tires, and LSD.

slvrbullet: Depending on the vehicle, you can buff it by machine very carefully. Usually though, just a medium cut polish with an MF app.

thecarguy: Honestly, check out the Meguiar's Professional Videos at www.bettercarcare.com.

Zane: LoL!

Fantastic work as always, Sean :xyxthumbs

I can relate to the long hours . . . I’m starting a new firm and have recently had little free time. Just returned home - 2500 miles in 4 days spanning 5 states. Much like your work, the benefit is that you’re working for yourself, as the boss, counting your own cash. It’s SO much more rewarding this way :bigups

Great work guys, especially on the Mustang! Nice to see Autopians working together.

Sean, that's a neat little pressure washer you've got. What exactly is it?
