Other Car Forums Detailing Guru's

Do any of you visit other car related forums and read and answer posts about detailing?

Then you get assaulted by thier resident detailing guru who is also incidentally pushing these board members products of his choice? :grrr

Im a moderater on grandamgt.com, one of my sections is the detailing section.

I dont push any product, my rule is to use what works for *you*.

I also DO NOT tolerate any member bashing another for using certain products.

Happens all of the time. I sort of give up. LOL The people that know me and want an honest and CORRECT opinion will usually just pm me on those forums.

Coupe - we need more ethical people like you.

On this forum, the guy is constantly pushing a brand of product he also sells, what a coincidence! I mentioned Optimum Car Poish and Compound, this scrote chimes in and says, "Those are like XXX and YYY that we all use here".

Sush a *******......

On this forum? Who is it so I can keep an eye out for their advice? As a NooB I can't separate fact from fiction, if someone is consistently pushing their own products in giving advice I'd like to know.

One that I used to visit is frequented by two former autopia members that now appear to be banned - they're constantly doling out bad to mediocre advice and whatever they say is taken as the gospel. That's just the way it is with most model-centric car forums - their loss I guess.

The G35 board that I visit is also frequented by Picus, a.k.a. Patrick, and Diesel1 who are all respected members of this site. They of course provide excellent and trustworthy help. Picus even included step by step instructions for darn near everything.

I do provide information if it hasn't been already and try to lead them down the right path. Most of the time they are very basic questions so I point them to the known how to's and to Autopia.

I do get bothered by the members who say "go buy the whole Zaino line" you won't be disappointed. This is especially true when this information is given to someone who doesn't know the difference between play-doh and automotive clay.

What bothers me even more than that is when the OP doesn't want to take the advice of the seasoned veterans of the board. They'd rather follow the people spewing product names rather than process. Oh well there is not a thing that we can do about that. It's their loss for not having enough sense to see the light :chuckle:

Same here. This is the reason I am staying away from Zaino and playing around with some other stuff(FK1, JW).

I think it's funny that when I visit other sites(I won't name names) that every little lost puppy on that site worships a few certain people on that site and they listen to every little product recomendation they give them so that they can make the vendor some money. Every one who thinks they know anything about detailing really doesn't know sh!t until they visit this site. I love Autopia:)

I try to behave and not post in every single detailing thread on other forums, but sometimes it's tough. :) My biggest problem is when someone gives misinformation that can cause harm (I don't care about product recommendations). On one I was on recently, a guy said his car was swirled and asked what to do...and someone (actually a moderator) posted that it would probably have to be wet sanded and the clear resprayed. Ugh. I couldn't let that one go....

That seriously irritates me. :wall Watching people talk about "being in awe of" someone or saying ridiculous things like "you are the greatest gift to detailing" etc are just nonsense.

At one particular site I visit from time to time, they have their know-it-all who responds to nearly every thread multiple times. This person is the first to respond to questions, usually well before the mods do. This member simply rehashes what they have read other "experts" type. People seem so thankful to this person.

This "expert" tells us all what speed to run on our rotary, tells us what products to use in certain situations, and even knows about paint refinishing.

This person has never used ANY machine to polish paint. :chuckle: I'll say no more.

There is a reason Autopia cleaned house a couple years ago...

The only other site I regularly visit, Off Topic, I've moderated the detailing forum there for 5 years now.

Give a guy an old t-shirt and a $15.00 bottle of Zaino Z2pro and he is out to conquer the world....

:chuckle:

One reason I have never tried Zaino was due to the fact I got so tired of hearing the overzealous people brag about it. To this day, I havent tried it but...........:angry times may be changing.....I just may have to see what its all about :soscared: If people would truely be honest, and polite, we'd all be better off, but :hairpull there's snowballs chance in Haiti of that happening....
