OTC Products, what`s new and worth checking out?

Manufacturers never think overly plain packaging will grab the consumer`s attention at least at the OTC level .The consumer is buying the packaging as well as the product even if the product winds up being crap. They have to make their product stand out on the shelf. Therefore all the cutesy packaging is sometimes more flash than substance.

And unfortunately that`s all probably true, though I consider such stuff an intelligence test (that I`d rather not fail).

..[then you oughta like]..poorboy`s world

I get stuck on the whole "poor person as identity" thing, even done facetiously, I can`t help but think "utterly opposite worldviews" to the extent that I knee-jerk against supporting with my money. That probably sounds like a slam, but I don`t see it that way (and I have nothing but good opinions about Autopian member Poorboy). I avoid Meguiar`s products as much as possible for the same kind of reasons (but yeah, I do use M101, QID, UQW..) and it even grates a little to support some others I could mention. Hey, I don`t support (i.e., experience) entertainment by Scientologists either.

OTOH, I *do* try to support [certain other vendors] for reasons of presumed philosophical compatibility, even when it costs a little more.

FYI, the White Diamond Metal Polish that you see to the side of the Chemical Guy`s stuff is a GREAT metal polish for those of you who have aluminum tread-plate (diamond plate) tool boxes or step plates or kick/scuff protection plates on pick-up trucks, fire engines, or emergency rescue squad vehicles.

To each his own. I personally was enamored to the point of fascination with Poorboy`s branding, and as you can tell from my avatar, I`m a huge fan if the mascot "Pockets". In reality, a truly poor person will not even have detailing products on their radar, especially internet brands, so I appreciate the irony. Also, several Poorboy`s products are not inexpensive. QD+, Nattys, Bold-n-Brite... these products are a substantial fist of dollars more than what you`d pay for QD, wax, and tire dressing at the store. Poorboy`s is "not a lot of money", sure, but they`re completely unnecessary to daily living.

I`m not defending Poorboy`s so much as showing how two similarly-aged people interpreted the marketing differently.

Pep Boys has started carrying some A303 products. And some Griot`s also. I don`t think it`s anything new, but it is some stuff that can be had the same day.

I still have about a dozen old B&W label CG product bottles. Most of them with sprayers.

me to:
EZ Creme Glaze with Acrylic Shine (awesome)
Bare Bones (plenty good, but "meh")
Butter Wet Wax (Better Re Wax)

oh, and some blue wheel cleaner which is the worst!

I`m curious, what would you suggest over bare bones?

I was looking for a better undercarriage alternative and tried out Sonus Trim and Motorkote, but it didn`t last anywhere near as long as the bare bones.

Motorkote is great for spray-and-walk-away engine detailing, but it might not take kindly to a watery/dirty environment.

I can`t honestly say that Bare Bones lasts any longer than plain tire dressing in the wheel wells. I often don`t bother to reach for Bare Bones and I just wipe Bold-n-Brite in the wells, but, I`m beginning to think 303 might work better.

No 303 doesn`t last as long in my tests unfortunately. If it doesn`t rain then it`s got decent longevity, but after a rain a lot of it is diminished. The bare bones lasts quite a bit longer probably because it`s oil based.

The only thing about that it can attract more dirt as it`s kind of "stickier" which is why I use 303 for the engine bay. I wish it would hold up to rain though.

I have found that after using 303 on plastics regularly. That it seems to have a much longer effect. Like when I washed the Buick on Monday . It was pretty cold, and 15 mph wind. So I didn`t want to spend as much time washing. The last time I applied 303 to the wheel wells was over a couple of months. A quick spray down in the wheel wells removed 90% of the dirt on the plastics. The plastic was still darker , and doesn`t have that grayish look. During the summer at least once a week 303 is applied. Now the first several times I used on any given car. The lasting effects were not that great. Maybe bare bones would be the same, but I`ve never used it.

I have used a lot of CG Bare Bones under the vehicle, or in fenderwells, (but NEVER in the Engine Compartment) in the Pacific Northwest, where of course, it`s raining, snowing, or always cloudy..

Never had much luck with the 303 line, so never followed up on it very well.

Griot`s makes their own version of this and I can`t tell them apart except for the cost difference..

The only other thing I used that was great for entire engines compartments, and all the black plastic in the fenderwells, was C/G Back to Black here -- https://www.autopia-carcare.com/black-on-black.html#.Wpc2CGpzb3g

Leaves a stunning look to very well cleaned German Car Motors and engine compartments, and wherever there is black plastic fenderwell liners, as long as you clean them really well, so it adheres better; it looks great, and lasts awhile.. It is not greasy, oily, or attracts dirt..

It`s not inexpensive, so you have to think about that if you are using it in a Shop vs my own vehicles, etc..

I used it in the Shop because my Client base loved it and could afford to help me keep buying it..:)
Just another option along with Sonus Motorkote which is also very good in my experiences..

The Absolute Best Smelling Dressing that if you leave alone to dry, will leave a beautiful finish that is not very long term durable -- Meguiars Hyper Dressing --- here --- https://www.autopia-carcare.com/meguiars-hyper-dressing.html#.WpdpQmpzb3g

I guess it makes sense that water-based products will be re-activated by rain and they will run off. But, like Coalroad said, maybe 303 builds up over time. It certainly works well on motorcycle rubber and plastic parts which, in my case, are exposed to a lot of sun and occasional rain.

I used the Griot`s Undercarriage Spray stuff a few times but it`s another slimy mess that sure didn`t leave my undercarriage clean and I sure wouldn`t want that stuff in my engine compartment...virtual antithesis of "white glove clean" IMO.

I still don`t use the Slime Approach on rubber or plastics and just don`t get the appeal. My exterior plastics and rubber get some variety of LSP or Trim Sealant, when IUDJ alone isn`t enough.

I only use the slime stuff on my tires, and/but I`ve never had any issues from the Griot`s/Pinnacle/Z16 (old version) causing issues in the rain.

Yeah I don`t like using that stuff on my engine bay for that very reason. But for the undercarriage I kind of think of it the same way folks have treatments for salt roads.

It`s kind of goopy and certainly sticky, but it lasts longer and protects longer under there than just being clean.

I tend to do my undercarriage about every six months so I want something that will take a lot of abuse until I get back to it.

I like using the Adams in & out spray, I think that the chemical guys have something like it now. It comes in a aerosol spray and gives nice coverage

You`ve found Adams OTC? I find Adams to be one of the more harder-to-obtain brands based on where I shop ONLINE, but I`ve never seen it in a store.
