Ordered new items, need advice.

:usa This is my first post but I've been reading the forums and How-to's for a while now. Well today I just ordered new products so that I can detail my car. I have a Silver Streak Mica 2005 Scion tC.



I have clayed(mothers OTC clay bar kit) and wax (gold class) my car before but it doesnt seem to last long or shine like I want.



The new items I ordered:

1.Craftsman 7inch 3800OPM w/ microfiber bonnet (Budget didnt allow for PC)

2.Klasse AIO

3.Klasse SG

4.Meguiar's G13224 Exterior Detail Spray



I need help with how many coats I should apply on my car and if the detail spray I order will work okay. Does it strip the AIO or SG? Also is the spray safe to use with the mothers clay bar? Any tips/hints on applying? If there is something wrong with the products I have choosen please let me know so that I can cancel the order and buy different products. Thanks. :)



btw the process of what im thinking of doing



wash with mr.clean or gold class shampoo

clay bar using the meguiars quick detailer has lube

klasse AIO - one coat (paint still new)

klasse SG - one coat after AIO then one coat after 24hrs

meguiars gold class wax - one coat after SG
 
I think they are good products... except for the buffer (you might as well do it by hand) ;)



Safe to you with claybar? Well it might take some of the wax off... so you'd have to re-apply it. The detail spray (quick detailer aka "QD") just goes on top, it woun't hurt the Klasse.



As for how many coats.. that's something you might have to experiment with yourself to get optimum results. Every car is a little different.

ahhhh! lol! Reason why I bought the buffer :waxing: was because I didnt want to do it by hand anymore, it takes too long and too much effort. I hope it works okay though... :nervous2:

Well you can't really HURT anything by using it, and you *may* find it saves time. I have one of those cheap orbitals sitting in the garage.. I just find that those stupid terry-cloth pads or whatever you call them get dirty quick, and you gotta keep changing them. I'd rather FEEL the paint by hand when *WAXING*. Even with the tools I got, I still apply wax by hand applicator and remove with MF cloth. I like to take my time doing it to make sure I get everything off properly. I really don't know how good of a job it will do for POLISHING, I'm not really familar with that particular product.
 
^ Thanks for the info and replies MrSelfDestruct. Last time I wash, clay, and waxed my car it took me almost 6 hours! My hands and arms started to hurt, Im hoping by using the buffer it will cut it times down to 2-4 hours. I will only be using the machine to apply the AIO and SG. For removing, I will to do that by hand with a microfiber. :)



Any other tips I should know about?
 
I've never used SG before, but AIO is a very easy product to apply. You only need a very small amount per panel and it wipes on very smoothly.



I personally tend to think that the only time hardware is essential is if I'm polishing because trying to remove swirls by hand will most definitely make your arm hurt and take a very long time.



For chemical cleaners (such as AIO), glazes, waxes, etc. application is usually fairly easy. It may be that you're rubbing excessively or applying too much product? Time-wise though it's tough to gauge because I have spent 3 hours or so just washing on occasion (I've heard of some spending even longer). But actually, if you're going to devote multiple hours to any process, it's probably best to do it at the washing stage, which is when most of the micro-scratching occurs if done improperly. I agree though that 6 hours to wash, clay, and wax is a little too long. :)



I'm not at all familiar with the Craftsman, just be careful that it or the bonnet doesn't cause marring. The PC is pretty idiot-proof--even I can use it.
 
Okay im nervous about using the craftsman polisher now... lol! I dont want to cause damage to my paint using it. I only have very minor swirls. The craftsman buffer comes with this blue wax applicator bonnet, a terry cloth bonnet for removing/polishing and I bought an extra microfiber bonnet. The instructions say to use the wax app bonnet to apply the wax( one time use bonnet only), but the the thing is superthin, so thats why i bought the microfiber one so i will just use that to apply AIO/SG and remove it with another microfiber towel.
 
If it moves in a random orbit motion you may be alright. If in doubt, tread lightly. Do a test panel. There are lots of quality pads available from Lake Country, Sonus, Propel (Excel Detail), but I just have no clue if they're compatible with the Craftsman. Maybe someone else who has used this polisher can chime in.



Also, if you want to remove the swirls, you'll need a true polish. AIO is more of a cleaner. Unfortunately, it's not very good at taking care of scratches.
 
^ Thanks for the reply. :) The Craftsman does 3800 random orbits per minute. Anyone know where I can buy high quality resuable pads for this thing?
