What is a reasonable orbital unit that you will recommend a beginner to use that wont cost an arm and a leg and where can i get it will help too. Thanks

winter i do not mind working out with arms and shoulders but when biking season is here i need all the energy i have.

Thanks in advance

the porter cable 7424 is available at coastaltool.com for a little over $100. that is the recommended orbital by the vast majority here.

how much is a little

its $119 now is this the little over ;)

$119 is it - this is the cheapest place for it that I have found. It was on sale 10% off about 2 weeks ago - so it was $107 when I bought it. Some places sell it for ~$200. The coastal tool package also includes the 6 in counterweight and hook and loop (velcro) backing plate. Two important additions that you have to pay extra for elsewhere. They also ship it promptly - it was at my door 2 days after I ordered it.

$120 for a machine that will do so much for your paintwork, does not sound like a lot of money to me. A pro detailer would charge you a lot more to reduce or remove swirl marks. I would say $120 is good value for money.

I just got one myself. I am planning to use it this weekend for the first time. I bought it from coatal tool when they were having the sale for $107 but even if you have to throw $120 at it I'd go for it. My reason for buying it were to save time and from what I have read the same results can't be achieved when using a SMR or a compound. Another great benefit is that it won't burn your paint unless you use a really abrasive compound and a wool pad. So you got safety on your side if you are a beginner and if is a good feeling knowing that down the road when you get better at using it that you can opt for a wool pad to help restore paint that is in terrribly condition. So it gives you a nice range to work within. I'd got for it man. hope this helps

I just rationalize it away by telling myself it will continue to save me time and sweat until I am too old and feeble to hang onto it.... :p
