Orange Peel

If I can find a volunteer car here in San Diego, I will do a full photo series article on proper wet sand, cut and buff. This is not a difficult skill to master, but there is risk and you need to learn how to "read the paint". A paint thickness meter helps, but it can only tell you the complete film build, not the thickness of the clearcoat. Reading the clearcoat takes experience.

Is there a way to read the paint, I removed the OP but the polish was the same colour as the primer so i didn't notice until I had worked the product. WHOOPS lol!

I charge around $40 an hour to wetsand. The last car I did was a 99 Trans Am Ram Air. Black and the previous owner should have been shot for how badly he took care of the car. Scratches everywhere To the point where the new owner wanted to repaint it, but he wanted to see what I could do with it first. I spent 16 hours wetsanding and buffing, and I wish I would of wetsanded more but I didn't know how thick the paint was to begin with. The owner was very happy, the car can out great. sorry I can't get pics on here they keep saying they are to large.

I do agree with the others that If YOU haven't wetsanded before I wouldn't try it on a new Vette. The Vette could be a little tricky since the car is fiberglass. When buffing you will produce heat quicker and thus be able to burn the paint quicker if your not carefull.

I'd save you reputation and pass on this one, the customer will understand and appreciate it.

Lets see if I can get these pics up. there is one before and after of a really bad spot on the car and the full view is after. I couldn't find any good full reflection shots.

Here is the update.

AFter a few minutes discussing about the orange peel's condition on the customer brand new vett, he perfer leave the op alone. Once I mention the disadventure of thinner clear coat by wet sanding. He just want my regular detailing package. Well, it is a beautiful red sexy car. Already schedule the end of the month to detail his ride right before local vett club meeting. :spot

Now I am prepareing to wet sand my own car soon. Stay tune.

Glad to hear that the customer changed his mind and that you still get to detail the Vette.

Have fun wetsanding your car. WAITING to see pics.

I need to move to a better climate.
