orange pad, black car

I was told by someone that you should never use an orange cutting pad to polish black paint (using something like DACP or SSR2) . It supposed to be very bad for the paint. Anyone have any first hand knowledge on this?:o

I own three black vehicles and the orange pad has been used on two of them already with great results. The only reason I can see someone saying this is if they don't have the correct pads/polishes to follow up with. As far as being *bad* for the paint, not true. All paints are the same, black just shows more imperfections than most.

I compounded this entire car with a LC yellow pad which is a little more aggressive than the orange pad:

Wow, black cars. I do *ALOT* of black cars. I'm proud of my reputation and results, but...

I just spent 12 hours REDOING (no $!) two black corvettes.

They were both quite neglected (95 & 02) with plenty of scratching...

I swirled them both with a Meg's yellow foam/rotary/DACP (and/or Diamond cut). We completed with AIO/SG. Looked spectacular iin the shop, but horrible in the sun!

One of them went to *WIN* a "Show and Shine" event at the "Circle City Classic".

But they came back...

Anyway, I spent the 12 hours fixing both with PC/Speed Glaze/Meg's polishing pad. Wiped with 50/50 ISO. Finished both with #26 (to give amellow look, and NOT enhance the remaining 'defects').

They both look fantastic now, in midday sun. 'Cause that's where I polished em!

So, not everyday is a good day, but we fixed em, and everyone is happy. We took the hit(12 x $42 =$504!), because I made mistakes.

Oh well.

If you do not have a less abrasive polish to follow up with, then yes, using an orange pad with an aggressive polish could be bad for dark paint (mostly hazing).

Jimmy Buffit,

Good for you for fixing your mistakes. That is almost unheard of where I live.

Just used DACP with an orange butting pad this weekend on my Super Black 350Z and it worked beautifully after I finished it off with AIO, NXT, and Souvern.
