Options? 22PLE + Swirls

I got a correction + 22ple coating a year ago from a local company. One year later... It's swirled all up, and I have an important show in two weekends that I wanna do better for. I've tried researching this, and I haven't come up with much.

Aren't swirls an issue with the clear coat? How does that happen if there's a coating of glass on top of it? They said to only use distilled water in a squirt bottle to wash the car (no soap or wax etc.), and that's what I've done.

What are my options? Swirl remover on top of the glass? Wax? I have a small kit of Black Hole and EXP and... Whatever the other two are. Would that be worth trying? I don't wanna make things worse.

Not necessarily an issue with your clear coat. The swirls are in you coating. Once a coating hardens it acts similar to a clear coat. The coating is a protective layer for your clear coat, like the clear coat is for your paint. You are going to need to polish out the swirls from the coating, just like they did with the clear coat before they coated it. Whoever told you to use only distilled water to wash your car isn't very smart. That's probably why your vehicle is all swirled up now.

+1 on the distilled water being a bad idea!

Going to need to polish and re coat or if that's not a option. Polish and wax until you can have the car re coated.

I'm in agreement with these guys.

They said to only use distilled water in a squirt bottle to wash the car (no soap or wax etc.), and that's what I've done.

This is some very bad advice this place gave you. This is more than likely the cause of those swirls.

Swirls are an issue on any surface. They are simply scratches. Just very very small but enough to see in good lighting. I would want to know why a "detail" shop is telling you that you can wash a car with only distilled water in a spray bottle. That's absurd. If you have any documentation of this I'd go back and demand they fix it and recoat

Okay, so the distilled thing is bogus and I should think of the glass as just another clear coat? So I should go back to soap and polish and detail spray and so on?

For the immediate future, can I ask another shop to do a normal polish and wax as a short term fix?

Yes. Follow proper washing technique so that doesn't happen again.

Coatings are supposed to be less maintenance meaning no quick detailers, spray waxes, waxes, etc. Car Pro offers a coating soap in Reset.

Sure you can ask another shop to polish. Be sure they are reputable. You may want to consider a sealant rather than a wax.

Have you thought about doing this yourself? Or possibly looking for a detailer in your are from this forum.

Can I claybar on this coating as well? So I can go through the normal process of:

Wash
Claybar
Wash

And then use my old kit of:

Poorboy's Polish
Poorboy's Black Hole
Poorboy's EX-P

And then I should be in decent shape?

Sorry this had to happen to you..
I would consider never going back to those people who told you to go swirl up your car..

Please understand that whatever abrasive you do to your paintwork will help remove your coating, and may remove it completely, like claybar/towel, polishing with any pad and machine, or even by hand..
What kind of machine and pads you do you have and how experienced are you in using them, in years ?

Perhaps some one on here is close to where you live ?
Good luck !

I only have those little circle hand pads for waxing and such. I've only done it a handful of times ever, and it's never made much of a difference. I can't invest in a PC and all that now, as my family is in poor enough shape that I need to sell my car to pay the bills. You can only live on credit cards for so long, ya know?

As such, I'm trying to figure out if what I've got can help out enough, or if I'm stuck throwing more money onto said credit cards.

I live in Peoria, AZ btw. It's a suburb of Phoenix. :-)

Well, finished clay baring last night. I've got very little time each day, so I'll start the hand polishing and such on the front end tonight.
