Optimum Tire Shine; what am I doing wrong?

I have found that dressing react differently to different kinds of tires or tire conditions, ie how dirty the tire is, how old, how good the tire is, what it has been exposed to.

I dont know if there is any science that can explain it. On one of my customers car no matter what tire dressing I apply on the tires, the 2 rear tires which are older and different brand than the front tires never stay dressed longer than 1 day. Especially the drivers side tire seems to loose its shine faster then the rest, while the 2 front tires stay dressed for over a week.

They all get the same treatment, but that one particular tire looses the dressing.

this has been my experience also when it comes to tire dressings.

I don't really have a product I consider an "old stand by" for tire dressing. I've been using hi temp's grape dressing since I have a gallon of it. In general I like it, but it doesn't last super long. Probably my favorite is Zaino Z16.

Is it possible that your prior silicone oil dressing is still on your tires and keeping the new water-based product from absorbing?

I have found this to be too true in many solvent based dressings, they won't allow the water based stuff to absorb properly. I had Megs purple high shine dressing on, and I couldn't get Opt. tire shine and other water based stuff to work until I totally stripped them with some purple power degreaser. All was fine afterwards.

Well, I haven't used the regular tire shine, but I have the Opti-Bond II. It is super thick, and applies wonderfully with a swipe. With the air gun, you'll be using a bit less I think, but the applicator method is good enough.

Kevin, on optimumforums you can ask directly David Ghodoussi. This issue is worth a better clarification or you can try the OBII, because it looks fantastically even - although my other dressings (FK1 108, Carlack Plasti-Care or even AA foam) perform flawlessly too.

I've tried it on 7 sets of tires now, and all of them were degreased prior to application.

Thanks Bence, I will try that.

Here is a link to the spray gun I use to apply the gel dressing.

Spray gun

I use it every day in my shop and dress 2 to 6 sets of tires a day and fender wells on some as well. The cup last me a week. I fill to the black line with Gel and the rest is water.

I use less product this way.
