Optimum shampoo enhanced

I was sent some time back a enhanced Optimum shampoo sample that David was working on and he asked me to try it out as many people had claimed that the formula he had at that time didn't produce enough suds (for those suds lovers out there) and that it wasn't as lubricating as other washes.

I noticed that the enhanced sample was thicker than the original but that was about the only difference I could tell appearance wise. So I set about using it, I added 2 capfulls to my 6 gallon bucket and I usually use between 4 and 5 gallons of water and as I filled it with water I noticed right away the increase in foam..thick rich foam....looked like a foamy head of beer in my bucket :grinno:

Because I use soft water 2 capfulls was overkill with the enhanced formula. I had suds overflowing before I had 4 gallons of water in my bucket!

I then went to a house to clean a clients Porsche Turbo and noticed something about the suds/lather. It stays foamy for a very long time. I had some foam land on my wrist and it stayed on my wrist the whole time I washed and dried the car. I then looked in my bucket and it had a nice foam head on it still....and this was with tap water.

I noticed greater lubrication also and also cleaning abilities. Stays wetter on the surface longer. Scent.....well there is a scent but it's not anything like cherry, bananna or pineapple.....it's just a scent... :lol

Now as I stated I noticed a nice foam head in my bucket after washing the Turbo....but here is my bucket almost 2 hours AFTER washing the Porsche...again with tap water

I would be interested to see how this works in a foaming gun. I don't have one so if anyone gets the new enhanced version and they try it please let me know. I might like to even try this as a bubble bath after a hard day of work :D

With a foam gun you will not be able to control it! 2 hours later and still that much suds, unbelievable.

It may even pull me away from my Tropicare delicious cherry wash...mmm..

I don't understand, was this just a development sample he sent you? Or is this available for purchase now? Is there some change to the labeling? How do you know if it's old or enhanced?

:chuckle: Yea I love the smell of TOLs bubble bath and also Poorboys wash....there was a wash in California I used that smelled just like the beach...or coconut suntan oil.....Mmmm, loved it!! Yet I hate coconut.....go figure :nixweiss

I may have to get a foam gun and try it out (where does one get a foam gun?)....it does have longevity that's for sure.

Same label and is selling now. It's just a reworked formula.

I have this picture in my head of someone using the foam gun and next thing you know they're buried in suds! :D

Autogeek has foam guns for a good price now.

Very Interesting..With the foamgun, how would you go about using it. Put 2 capfuls of this mix and fill the rest of the container with water? Sounds like a great wash - Thanks for the review Anthony!

Anthony- Thanks for the review. I'm always interested in new shampoos!

Mix it up in a gallon jug and fill the foamgun from that. Don't fill the foamgun up all the way, that way you can add more water if the mix is too strong.

I dunno though..for the way *I* use the foamgun you don't need, or even *want* any more foam than you get with regular shampoos. What you want is *lubricity*. There are different ways to use the foamgun, but I don't want to coat the car with clingy foam like at a carwash.

Thanks for the reply Accumulator. Yesterday I used the foamgun for the first time..I filled a bucket with rinse water - Covered the entire car with foam, then went around the car spraying the foam again directly at the area I was washing and following it with my mitt. Got very minimal marring....Need to inspect again today in the sun, however I know it is a *lot* less than the old way I use to wash!

I also like the Tropi-Care car wash (Cherry Scent).

There's a learning curve, took me forever to get my technique down right.

Anthony- If you want a foamgun, I'll shill for Danase :D He's a good guy and I like to support fellow autopians anyhow. I dunno if it's still on, but at one time he had a killer price on the thing too. I'm not sure how useful it'd be for a pro of your caliber, but it might be something useful for vehicles where you absolutely cannot mar the finish during the wash (filthy black ss lacquer on a classic comes to mind).

I'll have to see if my local Optimum distributor has it yet. I have a couple of customers who prefer I wash their cars conventionally.

But isn't it likely that some distributors have old stock? Or it's all been flushed out by now?

From what David said the old stuff should just about be flushed out as he said the new stuff was shipping out.

Email Dave directly (or call him) if you wish to have the enhanced formula. It's still the same name and label.

I just ordered a gallon of Optimum wash from Autogeek. So I guess it will be the new stuff. I can't wait to try. Optimum wash is all I have used for a year or so now...

If anyone wants a really wet car wash combo, use Optimum with Werkstatt wash mixed in.

That gallon is on sale for a great price (almost half off)...but according to Autogeek it is the old formula that they are clearing out in preparation for the new formula that will be available approx. 5/1.

That's quite alright with me. That gallon will last me over a year anyway, or else I would have ordered a couple of gallons of it. I might just in case.

For me Optimum rinses cleaner than other washes. Some of them seem to stick to the paint when trying to rinse. No with Optimum for me

Right, this is due to the polymers in the wash. The new formula rinses clean the same way but much more lubrication now.
