Optimum Metail Polish Review

Garry Dean

Garry Dean Quality!
I ordered some new Optimum Metal Polish (OMP) a couple of weeks ago and just got an opportunity to use it today.

A guy emailed me this morning about getting a detail done on his pearl white 07 Cadillac Escalade ESV with 26" chrome wheels. He wanted a wash, clay, and wax, but he was really concerned about his wheels. He said they really look horrible and they don't shine like they should. I had some errands to run this morning so I told him I would come by around 1pm. I get there and the truck is dirty, but looks sweet! You can never really tell what kind of shape something is in until you wash it so thats what I told the client. I washed the truck and the wheels with ONR and went from there. The wheels were really spotted up, scratched, and oxidized.

I generally use Mothers chrome polish, but not today, and never again! I tried the MCP first just to compare it to the OMP. The MCP wouldn't even cut through the spotting so I tossed it to the side and pulled out my new OMP. I don't need to say anymore, the pictures speak for themselves!

Front passenger side rim after wash with ONR before OMP.

More before OMP, notice all of the spotting and oxidation.

Now for the afters! Just a simple hand polish with OMP maybe 15 minutes per rim. Night and day difference? I don't know, you tell me! The tires were dressed with Megs Endurance tire gel.

GREAT JOB it looks all some

OMP has both mechanical and chemical cleaners. It did seem to fill a bit as I didnt work too hard as far as scrubbing to get the scratches out.

I have been using (WHEEL WAX ) and i don't thank it will work as good as (OMP):thanks for the:help:

Of course not. Wheel wax is a LSP for your wheels and OMP is a polish that also seals. You could actually top OMP with Wheel wax if you wanted to.

Any warnings on using it on aluminum wheels?

I have a set that I am working on and Mothers has been getting it, but it has been taking quite a bit of work.

The wheels turned out great!
Heck, the whole vehicle looks great! :)

I do have one question.
How do you get the wheels that messed up on a 2007?
Can't be from the salt on the roads. Maybe he drives the beach and likes to go through the ocean water. :D

The Optimum Metal Polish can be used on both bare aluminum and chrome.

For reference, if you"re unsure about the type of metal you're working on then test an area to see if you're pulling black oxidation, if so then you have aluminum. A dedicated chrome polish should not be used on bare aluminum as they tend to be more aggressive.

Many times polished aluminum is coated so instead of using a metal polish you'll want to use a paint polish. You can then wax or seal it as you like.

Yeah, I had details scheduled all weekend so the "dollas" come first! I will be sure to make it next year! We really need to have a meet again soon!

On chrome rims like that i just use acid and then pressure wash and its done. Blow dry with air . Looks good. Some sunshine shots would be great!
