Optimum Instant Detailer

Yeah, I think it has more gloss and depth. FK425 might be a little more slick, but it lacks for me in the looks dept when compared to OID.

When I compared these two against each other a year ago, I didn't see much difference in appearance, but I didn't use them long enough to make a fair comparison. I figured if they were basically the same in the looks department, I would just stick with FK425 because of the ease of use and no streaking issues. Now that I have been using them more, I am thinking that the OID is worth the little extra inconvenience.

I will probably keep using both though.

Yeah, I still need to give more time to using OID.

It's not an instant pick-up learning curve like UQD where it takes 10 seconds to get used to it because it (UQD) wipes away so cleanly.

After I left my car after the 2nd session OIDing, I thought the car was streak-free. It was only until the next night, 30-odd hours later as I was driving up to my car with my golf cart with the lights on...that the 2 golf cart halogens illuminated the horrendous door streaking that wasn't initially apparent.

Just gotta spend more time buffing it, or using less, or perhaps I need to dilute it to 4:1 :).

Streaking on an Enzo must be frustrating! :LOLOL

It's annoying at pedestrian speeds, but I just take it up to 200 and the streaking goes away fast :har:.

Edit: By the way, how many spritz per average-sized door panel are you using with OID?

I've been experimenting with 2-4 per, but I think that might be a bit much. I only do so b/c OID is a bit...thicker? and doesn't seem to spread as easily. Hence, use more .

The hard part in answering your question is what you mean by "spritz"?

In other words, I don't necessarily pull the trigger the entire way for each spritz. I would say that I use perhaps 2 and sometimes 3 spritzes per panel, but they are not full trigger pulls.

You definitely don't need much.

Hey people, the streaking of OID depends a lot on the actual water quality, so play with the proper dilutions. If a 1:3 deposits too much actives onto the surface, stretch it.

Yeah, ditto, I don't use anymore than a full trigger pull per panel, most of the time its just a few light sprays.

Oh, I would certainly think this is true, which is why anyone using using OID should mix it with distilled water, not tap water.

This is a total noob question, but would I be able to use this over Zaino Z2? I've been using Z8 as a QID, but that stuff is definitely a little too pricey for me to use often.

I could see if your using well water, but tap water has Federal guidelines that must adhere to. Shouldnt make a lot of difference from coast to coast.....I use tap water with no issues at all. Usually any streaking is resolved with a spritz to a new MF, then wiped away. I think surface temp and humidity play a larger role then tap water would.

Some areas have water that is much harder than others.

Forget about Federal guidelines, all that means is that it is safe to drink!

I would also be concerned with the minerals etc possibly having a negative impact on the life expectancy of the OID and its effectiveness. Distilled water is cheap peace of mind.

Optimum must recommend using distilled water for a reason.

They probably do recommend DW for a level playing field. I think for the average consumer, the water issue is still. not an "issue". Of course this IMO. Im still convinced (and IME) surface temperature and humidity play a larger role. Just as they do with any other product.
