Optimum Hyper Compound

Just ordered some.

I would expect it to work fine with a PC, but of course will have a considerable working time.

I have some Powergloss and I haven't used it yet but I'm sure it'd work with a PC as well, but most probably not as well or easily as SSR3.

With regard to OCC and OHC, does "long working time" mean the compounds MUST be worked a long time to prevent excessive marring/hazing, or that they CAN be worked a long time if desired?

They can be worked for a long time. The abrasives are organic so they break down more quickly (at least, based on my experience) than the abrasives in DACP for example.

With OP, I spread it over the area with the PC on 5, moving the pc 4-6 inches per second in overlapping strokes for a couple of passes, then bump the speed to 6 and move the pc about 1" per second for 2, maybe 3 overlapping passes. Experimenting with just 1 single slow pass and wiping off the excess, the paint appeared mar free.

Thanks, Scottwax....very helpful. I like the thought of being ABLE to work a polish for a long time, but not HAVING to do so. The theoretical ability to work OCC or OHC long enough to do a one-step polishing job, as you mentioned above, appeals to me very much. Being able to do that would save time.

I think the Dewalt is one of the few rotaries that go by RPMs, but usually we talk about PC's as 1-6, with rotaries as RPMs.

If you wanna know how many RPMs your rotary is doing at certain speeds on the dial, you'll have to find the info somewhere in the manual or online. If not, you'll just have to take a wild guess. :/

IMO, the long work time of OP via PC is not that big of an issue, but that's just me. It seems to me that both OP AND OC are best used via a rotary, the ability to be used via the PC is just an added bonus.

Scott, while I do agree that OP breaks down faster than DACP, IMO it is not even close to touching DACP in terms of aggressiveness. I would rank OP along the lines of SFP or #80. IMO, given that it less aggressive, it *should* break down faster via PC.

I just got off the phone with the Dallas area Optimum distributor and he said he should get in his shipment of Hyper Compound tomorrow (Thursday) and hopefully, he and I can meet up on Friday. Definitely looking forward to trying it.
