Optimum Car Wax

Concerning appearance, it seems most similar to 1Z Glanz Wax. I used 1Z about a week or two after OCW on my own car (just because I'd never tried it on black before) and the appearance seemed pretty close. Glossy and wet looking. Here are a couple shots of my car after some polishing steps and topping with OCW.

Beads real nice too:

I have enough left for another vehicle, so I will try it out and see how long it lasts. I mess with my own car too much to find out. If the durability holds up, I will buy some. Fast, easy and a very nice look.

Scott...keep us informed. I read the huge thread started by Anthony O. and really wanted to try some of the Optimum out BUT I had to place an order with TOL that day and they weren't carrying the product yet so I passed. It's still on my list of stuff to get BUT since the origional thread I have seen nothing else on the product to date.

Nice thing is that I understand this can be used as a QD over a carnauba or sealant

It's pretty QD-ish in application.

I bought a gallon and have been using it fairly regularly over top of my Collinite'd winter details. It seems to be pretty good although durability is still a big question mark for me, after all, it's on top of Collinite.

I did a fender of my dad's truck with it with nothing underneath it. A quick clay, hit it with some UPP and then Optimum. After a couple of weeks it's still beading but most of the slickness is gone (Although slickness doesnt mean much to me). I'll keep an eye on the beading and report back.

So far, I am getting equal readings (gee that sounds so "science" like:D ) on the FMJ as I am the OCW.

I am doing a side by side test on a MB hood and it is holding up just great. Slickness is still good and appearance is hard to tell as it's a silver color.

I have been using the OCW so much lately that I have not even cracked open my wax tubs in weeks.

The OCW is just like a QD and it can be used as an excellant topper or final wipe down spray on a sealant or carnauba.

I have found though that OCW does not sit well on top of Menzerna FTG. It gets rather oily.

Is the OCW similar to the 1Z Lackfinish in use and durability? I think the 1Z Lackfinish is intended to be a WAUD product, but can also be used on a dry surface.

What polish or glaze combo works best with OCW? I was thinking about using VM, but that may be a mistake based on Anthony's last comment when using the Menzerna glaze.

I used VM and then toppd it with OCW last night on a Porsche and it had no problems. I did a full detail plus an Xpel install on the Porsche and even on the Xpel it worked great also.

OCW can be used on a dry surface or a wet surface......well if wet it needs to be at least blow dried off as much as possible.

I'm still unsure how it may effect a "beauty wax" like Souveran. Maybe a carnauba QD only should be used on something like that?

Any updates on durability?

The description for OCW seems similar to 1Z Lackfinish. Anyone familiar with both have an opinion on the similarities between the two products?

OCW Users

I tried OCW yesterday and I want to compare experiences.

First experience: Application- I applied OCW to one section like a QD which is spray it on, wipe it in, wipe it off. I applied it like a sealant to the rest of the car which is apply a thin layer to the whole car before wiping off. The parts I applied like a sealant came off easily with no residue. On the section I applied as a QD, I noticed it was cloudy in spots and I had to go back over that section to remove the OCW.

Second experience: Slickness- I applied OCW over two-week old EX-P. The main thing I noticed id that OCW is not as slick as a fresh coat of EX-P. Since I had finished another car with EX-P earlier that day, I dragged an MF towel across both hoods and noticed the difference. Definitately not as slick as QD like Quikshine.

Is my experience unique? Do you let haze over before removing? Is the product slick for you and how would you campare slickness to other products?

My experience is exact opposite of yours. I noticed a very slick surface, very little drag and no problems removing.

Several reasons why you may have expereinced your results.

1) Applying too much OCW. If the surface is properly prepped then you only need a few mists to cover half an average sized hood or perhaps a whole trunk lid. Remember that OCW is NOT a QD but an actual sealant.

2) What were the temperatures when applied? If the temps are around 50 or below then you may need to warm up your work area. Also make sure that you shake the product well before and during your application.

I am puzzled because I would think you would have problems by applying it, allowing it to haze then wipe off. If I miss some OCW and notice it later it almost always needs another OCW application to soften and remove.

If you have a PC or Cyclo you can also apply the OCW to a panel, work the product in with a finishing pad or suede bonnet until all gone then buff with a nice cloth.

Hope that helps,

Anthony

Anthony,

I suspect based on your post it has something to do with a combination of temperature and mixing. Temperature was in the high 50s low 60s when I applied it but the car was cool to touch (cold rinse water) I was worried when I started thinking it was too cool since you are not supposed to apply below 55 C. I also shook the bottle before starting but did not agitates much during the application.

I put in on very thin and used little product (probably less than an ounce for a small roadster). On the hood, I sprayed a section lightly, then spread it with a MF pad, then removed it with an MF towel. On the rest of the car I wet the MF pad and spread it thinly let it haze then removed.

I will try again when I am sure it is high 60's and car is warmed. I will also try several panels with AIO, VM and EX-P underneath to see if that makes a difference. I was just disappointed that it was not as slick as EX-P surface my first time out
