Optic Coat VS. NanoSkin Shield Sealant

Im not basing the pics but basing them on the performance of Hydrophobic protection. After seeing the protection of the sealant I use I have seen no let up of protection and it looks the same as day 1. Im not bashing OC/OS in anyway but for what people are paying for that sealant and no one can prove it will last a "LifeTime", Ill just stick with the Sealant that I use, which I know will last alteast a year or even more. Its just that OC looks like a clearcoat with no proctection when water lays on it. A lot of people are on the OC/OS band wagon but not me.

How can you say “I know will last at least a year or even more" (spelling corrected) when you only applied it less than a month ago?? I assuming because you were told it would by the manufacturer as you state in the post.

I would sure hope that a sealant would be beading like that a month later. Question is will it be beading like that a year from now maybe but doubtful. DG 105 at 12.99 a bottle will give these same results.

Im not putting it on a pedestal but for what it does and how it performs it fits my customers and my needs and I can recommend it to my clients without worries. If they wreck their car after the detail they are not out tons of money. What worries me is the "Lifetime" Marketing hype...the avg person will keep their car just a few years and when they trade that car with OC/OS on it they will not get anymore for it at all just because their car has that 2nd Clear Coat.
Then this is what you should do. You are comfortable with it and your customers get their needs met.....

Most of us on here in all actuality keep our cars nice for the next guy anyway. Sure we may get a few more bucks come trade in time but not that much really. It's not about that for most of us, just like the OC customer they want to be happy with it while it's theirs.....

Its ok..I will say it...I think OC/OS is a complete waste of money for what its marketed for...ok its a 2 Clear Coat...big deal...I heard a lot of problems after OC/OS was applied and it costs way too money. Ive seen on other "Car Forums" wondering if they got scammed with paying over $500 or even $1000 for the OC protection. For my age anything that is marketed for having a "Lifetime Warranty" makes me very skeptical and this product is shoved down peoples throats on different car forums since they have "OC" reps dealing their dope on members. Does it give extra protection? Im sure it does...Is it worth the extra $500.. $1000 or so for what people are paying for it? I don't think so.
Pretty strong statement you’re making there. Maybe you should post this complaint there not here. Dealing their dope!! Really???

They're not paying $500..$1000 for it. They are paying the price of the product and maybe a small mark up by the installer to cover shipping. They are paying the man for his expertise and time. Who are you to say what someone’s expertise or time is worth. It is your opinion only. I can tell you this I would not pay you what you charge either. Not being sarcastic but seeing how I can do the same work I think you charge too much. Get the point?

I can tell you this for sure, my truck has OC 2.0 on it and I love it. Yes I did it myself so there was quite a savings in labor but it was a lot of work to do it properly, about 12 hours or so, wasn't keeping track but two full days for sure. I can see where the people doing it correctly do charge a lot for the work. And for the guys getting 800-1200 for a job, good for you, I wish I could but truth is in my area no one is going to pay it so I get what I can. It's just a fact of life some areas can support those kind of prices and some can't. It doesn't mean that they are over charging they are simply charging what the market can support. Coming on here and making the negative statements that you have concerning pricing is not a good practice.

Another thing that comes into play concerning the pricing is the skill of the person doing the work. It's not always about the price of the product that comes into play. Take painting for example it costs 75.00 for a gallon of paint no matter who buys it. But the cost of the paint job could be anywhere from 250.00 for the guy painting in his garage to 5000.00 for the professional that has perfected his craft. That is what you have here. Some of these guys have perfected their craft and get paid for it. Don't be negative be happy for them. They raise the bar for everyone. These are also the guys that have very good reputations that can use any product they choose and still choose to apply OC/OG. They have a lot to lose by using inferior products and know it, but still continue to use OC/OG so figure it out.

So let's see how they do in a year or two. By then something new will come along and another thread will be posted about the beading also.:D

Instead of comparing BRAND A sealant vs. BRAND B coating, why not just look at the benefits of a coating vs. a sealant and leave it at that? There IS a market for both, we sell tons of OptiCoat and we sell tons (and tons) of popular sealants like BLACKFIRE, Ultima, Duragloss, Wolfgang, and more. We even sell tons and tons of premium carnauba waxes. To each their own.

As far as Opti-Coat being hype, I will address this...

It's not....

I was with David Fermani and helped him along some of the steps of his test, plus I saw the car in question every month or two for over a year (he applied it by himself).

If you are a sealant guy, then great. No worries. Your not alone.

Who cares what others think? If it's your car, it only matters what you think, and if it's a customers car, it only matters what the owner thinks.

lol they are two entirely different animals. It's like comparing a paint shampoo to an interior gel... just doesn't make sense.

Before you bash a product, why don't you try using it?

he is not bashing anything, just his opinion

Bashing is too quickly used on forums when someone expresses an opinion on a product that differs from someone elses, especially if it's the home team's product. It's really easy to use the term bashing instead of accepting that not everybody has the same opinions as you do.

That's too bad. If everyone would realize I'm always right this would be a better place ;)

I knew who the thread starter was just by reading the title.

I'm a total noob when it comes to detailing but I'm proud to say that I, at the very least, am trying different products i.e. Pinnacle, PB, BF, DP, DG just to name a few. I will see what yields me better results and might even make a recommendation or two. I'm not sure what affiliation you have with Nanoskin but you're not making me want to try it for myself because you sound like an infomercial and are quick to bash other products that have paved the way for them.

Your new to detailing?
I came up with a saying a few weeks ago I think you'll appreciate:

"Find a product you like and use it often" :rockon

Im not bashing any products..just a person owns a detailing business. I have no business dealings with NanoSkin...but there was another site that no one even talked about any NanoSkin products and I started doing reviews on it then they started carrying the products just like this site did. If I like something I use it and If I don't like it...it gets returned...like 99% of the Griots products that I have tried.

You are obviously very influential and a well respected detailer :rockon

LOL...I just think I was using a product that a lot of people was unaware of. Its nice to have high quality products to choose from.

Yes it is
It is also nice to have a place like Autopia Forums to come to and learn from some of the greatest detailers (like yourself) in the whole wide world! :)

Keep up the good work! :rockon

We have been in negations with NanoSkin for a quite a while, long before any product was reviewed on this site. However, I want to STRESS, that we listen to forum members and their requests, and we always do our best to accommodate them.

When a business deal is done, it isn't as simple as deciding that we will carry A or B. PBMG's warehouse is huge, but it is full of the best products there are. In order for us to carry a product it has to earn its shelf space. From a business perspective certain requirements have to be met. Ultimately we listen to all of our forum members and do our best to accommodate them.

Well said, you guys have a great offering and with the related companies you guys carry some serious weight in the industry. No doubt you need to drive a deal that works for the company financially after you determine that the product meets your needs and the needs of the members for both price and performance. So far so good. I have not purchased and "bombs" from ACC. Keep up the good work.
