Operation Road Warrior/It’s Hammered!

Client brought me his ‘road warrior’ to clean up and get some ‘protection’ on it. It lives outside 24/7 and has seen better days. This vehicle is by far the worst paint condition I have had in to date. I was going to say it was in the top 3, but this one takes the cake.

Heavy swirling on every panel, the hood and leading edge of the roof were in horrendous condition. HEAVY defects scratching, gouging, etc were all over these panels with a little bit of clear failure beginning on the edges. The heaviest scratching was all in one direction (forward/backward in straight lines) over these panels as if it were abraded by something—I thought car wash, but it was only on these panels, and the rest of the roof was OK; perhaps someone used something in an attempt to clean it, or they used it to build sandcastles on…I don’t know! LOL

The heaviest/biggest guns in my arsenal cleaned it up a bit, but still would not correct. I tried a test spot with some sanding…still not avail. The hood is fiberglass, and some of the scratches were indented/gouges, but come on! It cleaned up and glossed up well, but the majority of the heavy stuff is still there.

What a turn around!
Yes, an "Extreme Makeover" is a lot of work...but it is greatly satisfying!!!
It`s impossible to obtain "show car" results on something so neglected...
But it turned out 1000+ times better than when you got it!

GREAT WORK!

^^Thank you Mike! I felt like I was chasing my tail for a while when chopping away at it! Appreciate the comment!!!

Nah..... don’t believe it..... gotta be 2 different Tahoe’s. Nice work Siz. Amazing turn around

WOW, talk about a test of skill,,, looks awesome, would have liked to have seen the look on the owners face when they picked It up.

WOW. That is unbelievable work!!! I think that may well be the worst "before" condition I have seen on Autopia, ever!

THAT`S why I keep coming back here. These kinds of results are inspirational for a beginner, like me! Thanks so much for taking the time to post :)

Do you feel like it was bad enough where if you couldn`t do anything to fix it, it was a repaint? I felt that when I did my mom`s Z3 that her brother gave her. It sat outside with feral cats for 20 years. The cool thing was it let me practice wet-sanding and a bunch of other techniques that I wouldn`t have been able to on my cars.

Those surface pictures looked like "Revenge of a thousand cats"! I thought this one was beyond help, worst I`ve ever seen. You are indeed an artist.

I will first say, Welcome to detailing daily-driven, neglected vehicles like the the rest of us "mortal detailers" do! Never thought you would take on such a vehicle in that condition.
Difference is that this Tahoe that you did turned out soooooo much better that I can ever do.

Second, I do not think I ever saw you use Scholl`s Concepts compounds before. Is this something you had in your detailing product arsenal for such "projects" as this? Did you use the GG Fast correcting Creme (compound) between the S0 Mattting (sandpaper-in-bottle) and the S3 one-step compound and was the S3 more like a `polish" with the type of foam pad you used?? Any thoughts and opinions on using and the end results of the Scholls Concepts compared to the Griot`s Garage BOSS compounds and polishes?

Third, I see you are wearing glasses, judging by the your reflection in the now mirror-like black paint of this Tahoe. Are they a prescription lens or are they OTC reading (AKA cheater) glasses??

Thanks for posting this "project" Tahoe. I think the owner had a nickname for this vehicle before he brought it to you: SCRATCH!

And by the way, the owner paid you one of the highest compliments that any detailer worth their salt can take pride in, saying that their vehicle looks even better than the day they bought it, despite driving it for several years.

I was waiting for you to chime in Lonnie!! And I KNEW you`d comment on the choice of compounds!

Yes, I have had them in my arsenal for such cases. I have only used it once before and it is SUPER SUPER AGGRESSIVE. I mean, their description hits it right on the head.
Yes, the S3 finished down the S0, then I refined it a bit more with the Griot`s FCC.

You can`t compare these to the Griot`s offerings as they are so much more aggressive than Griot`s. I mean, leaps and bounds. I initially started with FCC and it wouldn`t touch the defects, glossed the area up quite a bit, but negative on the correction.

Don`t I look intellectual! LOL

And thank you! I too was happy to hear that from them!
