Please tell me you didn't rent that place on Pine Valley Blvd. with the U do it bays beside it! Either way, welcome to the biz Dave. Let's hope for a good summer!

This goes without saying, but go visit Scotty's Shine Shop !

I'm honestly amazed anyone is still trying to open up here with the costs being what they are right now but shops are springing up (and closing up) like crazy the last year. Big car wash/detail operation here just went tits up a couple of weeks ago and was supposedly $75000 behind in rent alone :jaw:

No, I found a garage at Clarke & Trafalgar. I probably looked at 9 or 10 places, didn't see one on Pine Valley though. Just waiting on some insurance stuff to get finalized. Thanks, and I hope so as well!

If I didn't have any leads I definitely would not try to open from scratch, I think it would be crazy hard to start from scratch.. I grew up around the used car lots my dad helped run so I know a bunch of them in the east. I know who they use there in the east end so hopefully they will switch to me:)

Know that area well - worked at U-haul just down the road from there while in college. Best of luck bro.

I know pretty much everyone in the car biz and the dealers in that end of the city typically either do in house detail or use the lowest bidder. I don't even go out there any more because of all the low ball nonsense. If you need an account right off the get go MacMaster will definitely send you cars but be aware they will beat the ever loving hell out of you on price.

Yeah costs are just ballooning in part of the country eh ? Biggest thing, I think, is longevity. A lot of people are in this to make a lot of money really quickly, but that simply just doesn't work. Business owners need to think about 10 years into the future, not 10 months.

Majority of the guys I see opening have no idea what they are getting themselves into and end up tanking in 3-6 months. The other big one is a business that thinks they can add to their existing business by detailing and then end up doing details at a loss and subsidize it with their original business - dealerships/mechanics are a perfect example of this.

I totally agree with you on the longevity. And the money isn't a huge motivator for me. I have a delivery service I opened with my dad back in 2007 that does 1500 deliveries a week, so Im not hurting so much that it's make or break. I detailed cars before I opened the delivery service.. so I'm getting back to what I loved doing before. And I will still do deliveries Friday and Saturday nights where I can make up to $400 a night until my business picks up. The detail jobs will come, as long as I put out a great product, and I train the right people to see what I see. Thanks for the advice!
