ONR users: do you use a QD spray while drying?

Well, I just tried washing the car with ONR for the first time in a while NOT using a QD spray while drying. The residue is most definitely gone using this method, even using cheapie MF towels from Costco!

I will probably stop using the QD spray.

using the costco mf towels on your paint is another issue entirely.....personally I don't trust them for anything other than door jambs and wheels.

Maybe, it really depends on which supplier they get them from at your Costco. The ones I have gotten in the past have passed the CD test with flying colors! Plus I just throw them away after I use them. And I go through about 6 (use 2 at a time) when washing a normal sized car.

ONR adds enough gloss or slickness on its own. I haven't regularly used a QD in a long time now. Seems to have a cumulative affect if you wash regularly with ONR.

If I want more pop, I just put on some OCW or Opti-Seal.

Wonder why it doesn't work out that way for me or the pal I set up with ONR

ONR seems to quite often kill the slickness (especially of Collinited vehicles) for both me and my friend. Also frequently makes my wheels retain subsequent soiling worse than with a conventional wash, even if I FK425 while drying.

Yeah, I've tried various ONR dilutions, using DI water, you name it I've tried it :nixweiss I mean, gee...this isn't some huge intellectual challenge; there are only so many factors to consider and I'm quite confident I haven't overlooked any of 'em.

Somebody here experienced the same thing and asked about it on the Optimum Forums, but the only responses seemed to be along the lines of "shouldn't do that"/"no reason why that would happen"/etc., the implication being that it's simply impossible or something unless one makes some mindless mistake.

Not sure why you aren't getting good results with ONR over Collinite, seemed to work fine for me, definitely didn't kill the slickness.

I detailed a Challenger on Monday that the owner had prewashed. Still had to wash it again (and clay it) to be sure it was dust free. You could definitely see and feel a difference between the panels I had already washed vs the clean panels he had just washed an hour earlier. He noticed it too.

I mentioned this here and in a couple other forums as well. Never get a real answer, but one ONR wash destroyed the slickness of freshly applied 845.

Yeah, I've resigned myself to thinking it's "just one of those things...". I only posted it in case somebody else experienced the same thing (as MikeNap apparently has).

Weird, huh? I kinda felt like a Doofus with my pal from the Jag Club though; Collinited his MKII, gave him the ONR and showed him how to do it...and then he kills the wax right away in the middle of concours season :o

I should clarify that ONR hurt the slickness, not the beading. But since I only ONR wash it's hard to tell if the beading is from the 845 or the ONR.

I've had the same happen for me, also with 845. Was still beading really well (tight, round beads, which I would attribute to the wax rather than ONR), but slickness was definitely lessened. Rather funnily, I've found that DP Rinseless doesn't reduce the slickness in the same way; it seems to be adding that slickness in fact. No idea why the one rinseless wash works better on my car than the other :nixweiss

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to try that. I have some DP Rinseless I've been using in place of ONR, but the car now has OptiSeal on it. I'll probably save that last bit of DP to try with 845 again. Very interesting observation!

OK what are the best MF towels to use for ONR? I am tired of using these Costco MF towels (I know I was willing to defend them to the death before!), but they leave too much streaking and roll up on me if they're not already moist.
