I have been a memeber on here for a while and read all the post about Optimum no rinse but I kept thinking there is no way it could really do all of that. Well I finally bought a bottle of the "new formula" and this morning decided to wash my wifes white BMW 135i convertible. It was pretty dirty and had a lot of bugs on the front and road grime/tar on the sides. So first I wet the car and washed the canvas top as usual with Ragg Topp. Then I moved to the wheels and washed them normally with wheel cleaner and rinsed. Then for the bumper and sides with bugs and tar I sprayed them first with Duragloss bug remover a minute or two before washing with ONR. Duragloss doesnt remove wax and can be used wet or dry so I figured it would not conflict with the ONR.
After a minute or two of a presoak with the bug cleaner I took the new microfiber mitt and dunked it in the bucket of water containing exactly 2.5 cap fulls of ONR and 1.5 gallons of water. Then I started washing. I was really shocked to see the dirt and bug disappear. Some of the dried bugs took a couple of wipes as always but this was great. I was working in the early morning shade at 70 ish temp so I didnt have to worry about drying too fast so I moved on and washed the hood and dried it and the front. Then I followed the bottle instructions washing a section and drying it.
Even the sides of the car that were really dirty just cleaned right up. And drying was a snap since there is so much less water left on the surface. After finishing the whole car in record time, I was left staring at my daily driver a Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab in the garage and it was only slightly dirty. And I noted I still had a lot of ONR left too. I was using a normal two bucket setup with clear water in one with a grit guard on the bottom.
So without even pulling the truck out of the garage I started on it with the bucket of ONR. The truck is inferno Red which is Dodges deep red color and it is bad to show swirls etc so I was really worried about it. So I finish the truck also in record time and noted that the wheels (chrome clad wheel covers) were also pretty dirty too. So with the remaining ONR I wiped on the wheels and just let them dry on their own.
The tires were not too bad so I didnt scrub them nor did I wash the wheel wells. But when I finished with both of them in about 90 minutes (at least 30-45 minutes less than normal) I took some time to reallu inspect them.
Clearly they were both different looking than normal. They had more gloss even on the white BMW. The Inferno Red Dodge looked as if I had jsut spent 5 hours buffing it. It also felt as if the paint was really slick. I had buffed and clay bar on both of them a few weeks ago but it felt as if I had just done it today.
Overall I am VERY impressed and will use this more often. Though if the wheel wells and really bad and it needs a "full wash" I may still use the old way. I also want to try to make my own QD using ONR to see how well it works for touchups and clay bar use.
That alone would help justify the price of ONR over traditional wash soap.
I guess this is old news to many of you but I am a old fart at 46 and jsut didnt think it would work. Whats next ? Maybe I will finally use some other stuff you guys are singing about too.
