ONR + I may be the worst user and/or car cleaner

If the QD doesn't get the water spots off I suspect you're right, they're not from washing.
 
Ok, round 2 seemed to go better than round 1. It's not sunny out so I don't see everything but what I do see looks good. The drying towels were much cleaner than the first attempt. I did rinse the car with the hose to get these tree things, that fall from my neighbours tree and on to my car, off before washing. I think it was those those caused some minor scratching, and maybe some swirling, on the first attempt. I also used distilled water this time as opposed to straight from the tap. That probably helped. Since I don't want to go to the supermarket everytime I want to wash my car I picked up a Brita tap filter to get better using ONR.



I will keep on practicing and hopefully get better, and quicker :) Then I'll have Kevin over to fix it all up, make it look awesome, and give me some pointers on technique, etc.



Lastly, next time I will also try OCW.
 
Well, now that I've seen it in the sun there are lots of swirls. I'm not sure if it was round 1 or round 2. I'll continue as is and hopefully hone my technique. I think my drying needs help :(

A Brita tap water filter isn't going to give you spot-free washing/drying. At the most, you will probably only have better tasting tap water now.:dance



Drinking water filters like the Brita are mostly for improving the taste of potable water thru a combination of carbon and mechanical filters. They have virtually no ability to soften hard water. They will remove the "chlorine taste", some organic chemicals, and small amounts of particulates or sediment.



A water softener cartridge/filter will reduce your water hardness which may help substantially, but only DI, RO or distilled water will give you anything close to spot-free water. Most water softeners use a resin based cartridge which exchanges sodium salts for Ca and Mg. The Ca/Mg in hard water form carbonates and sulfates that precipitate out of the water and they leave behind the tell-tale water spotting.
