Only the scratches.. nothing else

Yea.. i got this guy called me today with a black bmw x5.. he said he got a few scratches on the hood and in the rear bumper that he needs to be tooken out.. he doesnt want the car fully detailed as he just got it done last month. i told him some scratches depending on its dept and condition, cannot be tooken out but can be improved to look better and he said its ok.. i quoted him $60. is that fair? and what will be the fastest method to take it out? i dont want to spend hours on a $60 job. any suggestions would be appreciated.
 
A PC, 4" spot pads, start with SSR3/cutting pad finish with SSR2.5/polish pad. Or ScratchX via hand and #80 via pc to finish. Or any combination of the above. Finish with Menzerna FTG, One Grand Omega Glaze, or VM to hide. Wax and enjoy.
 
Chances are that the areas that you will be doing the scratch removal on are going to stick out like a sore thumb if the rest of the vehicle goes untouched. Chances are the vehicle will have light to moderate swirling/marring so it will be hard to blend the areas that you did, I would try my best to convince him to get a full detail done.

There are many "detailers" out there, if not almost all that leave many swirls. Don't worry about that.
 
I smell a possibly troublesome customer. You could take the job anyway, but ask yourself:



(1) If he just had it detailed, why doesn't he call that guy to do it? If he did call that guy, does he not want to work for this customer?



(2) If he owns a $50,000 car, why is he being picky about $60 vs. maybe $100 for a more complete treatment?



(3) If he's this cheap, is he likely to be someone who's going to nit-pick your work and short you on the payment? If you're confident that there'll be nothing about your work to nit-pick, maybe you don't mind. But you know the type I mean.



On the other hand, he might turn into a great customer. If you take it, I'd look to do a killer job on his whole hood so that next time he wants a full detail, he knows who to call.

Have you even seen the vehicle yet? Sounds like you haven't and if that's the case how can you come up with an accurate assessment of what needs to be done, how long it will take and consequently - how much to charge? Giving prices sight unseen is bad business. I don't even like to give "ballpark" prices when a customer asks because they may (and often do) need something completely different once you actually see the car and then you get the "you quoted me $XXX over the phone" argument.

Unless you specialize in scratch removal, you'd probably be better off taking a good look at the total condition of the car, including the scratches and then giving him a quote on detailing the entire vehicle.



Also, if he just got the car done last month, why wouldn't he take it back to whoever did it last month to have the scratches removed?
