One Step Polishing

JuneBug- Sure, I've read and read and discussed this stuff with a lot of the big names.  I could still never get M105 to pass muster in a dark room under the SunGun so I quit trying.  Sure I can get it to finish out OK under less demanding lighting ;)


 


99% of the time, if I get the inspection just right (might take five or ten minutes...which can seem like a lifetime if you're inspecting a single area) I can see micromarring from just wiping off M105; simply moving that stuff across the paint under sufficient pressure to get it off leaves an imperfect finish for me.  Yeah, QD/rinseless can help so I generally use M34.  But still...


 


In hindsight, it was a complete waste of time, all the messing around I did, since I'll always finish out with something like HD Polish/1Z Hi Gloss anyhow.  And note that I can go years without ever touching a bottle of M105 in the first place.  IF I did correction regularly that'd be something different...I bet I won't do four whole-car M105-level corrections again the rest of my life.  Might *never* do it...I don't touch the M105 bottle every year by  a long shot.
 
fangster--I've had very good results with HD Speed using an orange 5.5" B&S pad (same as Uber) on hard VW paint using speed 5-6 on my GG DA.  Takes a few passes but good results and then if you want you can put on a coat of HD Express wax in 15-20 minutes for an even better look.  If your paint is softer you can always drop down to a B&S white pad or green pad.

We use Speed with B&S Green foam on almost every dealer car we touch. It can take out a decent amount of scratches/marring, leave a very glossy finish as well as some temporary protection.

For longer protection, can HD speed be topped right away with a sealant or should there be a curing time? If curing time needed, how long?
 
If you're going to top it with something else anyway, why not use a straight up polish? Seems to kinda defeat the purpose of an AIO if you're going to go the extra step of putting a sealant on anyway IMO. Not being critical....just an honest question
 
House of Wax- On consideration might be *which* polish people are using.  Some need stripping/etc. prior to the LSP whereas an AIO won't (assuming it's compatible with the LSP).  That also assumes that the AIO in question can do the same work that the polish would...gee, lots of assumptions, huh?

Makes sense. Just been wanting to make more use of my HD Speed bottle so it's not just stuck on the shelf. I guess for a quick AIO it works. I do like to have a longer lasting seal on the paint.
 
Speed works well on that fake plastic chrome trim/grills that a lot of cars have. Cleans it up well but is gentle enough that it doesn't damage the plastic

Even though Speed offers some decent protection, it's also an excellent base for Nitro Seal or Poxy for that matter. The key to any protectant is to apply a very good even layer which most times requires 2 coats. What Speed does (when used with other compatible HD protectants) is makes a stronger base so when/if you apply a topper you're already 1 step ahead.

Is there a recommended wait time to apply a topper?
