Been lurking for a few months sucking up information like a sponge(or maybe a nice fluffy sheepskin wash mitt:woohoo
and finally got around to registering. I'm a big Honda/Acura fan, like the 'stock' OEM look mostly, not into that ricer stuff:lol i drive my dad's old 1993 white Honda Accord, he has a new 2004, also white. my mom's got a 1997 white Dodge Caravan(notice a trend??) I've been into detailing since i was washing the '93 accord with my dad. i've been using the two bucket method even before i knew other people used it too:lol but white sure seems.. :ignore even when i've spent hours and hours on it. so my goal here is to adapt my wash technique to white paint and make my car pop!
here's what i have currently:
my list of things to buy(eventually:lol) OTC brands are much easier then asking my mom to order online..
magic clean erasers for the vinyl headliner
a few grit guards
megs gold class shampoo(currently using megs soft wash)
rigid 5hp wet/dry vac
pc 7424
hitemp tire/rubber cleaner
sonus total eclipse
sonus tire and bumper dressing gel
autoglym engine cleaner
nxt glass cleaner
i need help on finding a good glaze, as i don't have a pc(yet:lol) i've searched and found good reviews of these:
plus i'm a little hesistant of using any polish on a 14 year old car:nervous2: but it has a TON of swirls! -it's never seen anything harsher then megs cleaner wax
hahahahha i guess it's a good thing it's white or I'd really be in trouble!
now for the 'get to know me'-

i have some problems/questions,
number one: the white paint on my car looks pink to me from some angles!! it seems to be embedded underneath the paint:nixweiss any help/solutions would be GREATLY appreciated
number two: i tried cleaning my wheel wells with dawn and a scrub brush and after removing road grime and dirt(i think?) i found white underneath:think: but it looks like the white may possibly be on top of something else, it appears to have texture.. very perplexing to me.. plus some of the well is just metal, and some is a smooth black plastic. i don't recall or think that it has painted wheel wells and neither does my dad. (in the picture you can see where i tried to scratch off the white with my finger nail)
i don't use a pressure washer when i clean my engine bay, just simple green, scrubbing, and a thorough rinse. i'd like to eventually learn what to cover so i can be a little more agressive.
there is a spot, roughly one inch by one inch, on my trunk lid where the paint is raised and cracking, i don't know why either:nixweiss i plan on going to a junkyard to look for a new one if and when my dad decides to sell it.
I'm worried about a scratch on my fender, and a deep door ding on the passengers side
the rear bumper is trashed
it has been that way for many years previous to my driving it though, so i'm also in the market for a new bumper cover. my local Honda dealership said they cost $220 from their store -yikes! i've already laid down $60 for hubcaps to replace two that were ruined. i keep my eyes open on ebay and other sites so one day..
i plan on showing this car much more love and restoring it to as near stock-beauty as possible
unfortunately it hasn't been shown nearly the same in the previous years, but I enjoy cleaning and 'restoring' it's been a daily-driver for 203,000 miles, and for 14 years, it's almost as old as i am! it has the 'battle scars' including quite a few door dings and scratched to show for it, but a new bumper would fix around 80% of the problems i think.
Autopia is a great site, one of the best forums I've visited! the moderators do a great job of keeping the tone civil, and the community seems to enforce itself as well:hifive: any comments and advice is ALWAYS welcome! my paint seems to lack a certain something, and i'm sure there will be people here who can help me learn how to fix it. i hope to learn a lot more about protecting my paint, and adding value, as well as enjoying doing the work!:lol I look forward to my first 'click and brag' too:thx
p.s. sorry about the long thread:lol i REALLY enjoy detailing! there will be more to come soon, with pictures of my other problems

now for the 'get to know me'-
1. How did you wind up at Autopia?
Found a link at driveaccord.net, what a big help!
2. What do you like most about detailing?
the fact that it's a job that's never finished:lol the feel of super smooth/slick paint! feeling that sense of pride and accomplishment in your car
3. What are your favorite products/processes and why?
haven't gotten a chance to get my hands on anything that's not found in the local autozone/kragen etc., looking forward to some zaino and autoglym products though!
4. What's your dream car and why?
probably the Ford GT- heritage and power! i like the second generation Acura Legends as well though, probably a little more realistic, at least for now:lol
5. What's the best thing you learned on Autopia?
what a change a pc/rotary can make!
6. What are some of your other hobbies and interests?
the car absorbs them all:lol
7. Do you have any pets? If so, types, names, pics.
one dog, yellow lab, two cats, one black one calico
the black blob lying down on the left is one of them:lol

8. Name three secret techniques that you think you should share to fellow Autopians.
i'll spill the beans when i come up with some:lol
9. Where are you from and where do you live now?
Southern California born and raised
10. What was you first car and what got you interested in keeping cars perfect?
1993 Honda Accord, after it was in an accident it got a new hood and front bumper they looked so good it changed my view of the car(not that i didn't like it previously:lol )
11. What motivates you to detail?
little imperfections like dust, water spots, the like
12. Would you ever pay someone else to detail your car?
only if it was someone i knew and trusted with power tools who i could watch and learn from
13. Does detailing run in the family at all, or are you the only normal one?
i'm the only detailer! tried to get others into it but it just doesn't stick. some daily simple tlc, five minutes tops, keeps the car looking so much better!
14. What is your favorite part about detailing?
taking my time and spending all day working with my hands to acheive results. i like cleaning the engine bay because it's a drastic difference and i like cleaning all the corners and behind hoses
15. If detailing is a hobby for you, would you like to do it full time, or do you feel that it would take the fun out of it?
not full time, as a part time hobby, sure
