Omg... Look What I Just Did!!

Ouch a Cobra chromie! One of mine were damaged from shipment and the daler replaced it. Looks fine.

Replace it...it's the best in the long run, if you think like me.

At least they are not THAT expensive...Viper wheels are something like $600.

ouch! i can sympathise. i did the same thing with my Mach1's rim, although the scratches on the lip were bigger, not to mention the sidewall got a small gash.

i guess depending on how picky you are, and if you have the money, but have you tried getting another rim from such places as Texas Mustang Parts, or Late Model Restoration, or any one of the vendors in one of the Mustang magazines? The Tire Rack may even have them, I think they sell Ford Racing rims. Or maybe somebody on one of the Cobra forums is trying to sell some? i would've bought a new rim, plus tires, if i could afford it. knowing it's not OEM can be a little bothersome, especially with something like a Cobra or Mach1.

Yea, the guy at Sheehy Ford gave me a helluva idea. Since this one rim is damaged, and at one point or another I will want drag radials... I'm going to buy 2 brand new chromies. One will go on my car, the other will stay with the scuffed one for the purposes of being matched with a drag radial. That way, I already have a set of rims for my drag radials! Although it's not really the way I wanted to do this, it is a good idea and it makes me feel better about buying a $235.95 wheel.

What do you guys think?

I work at a grocery store, and I park in front right next to those islands, b/c less carts go near my car in that spot, but anyways, I have learned to back straight out, and if possilbe, straight into the handycap spots. Problem solved. I have also driven over that curb numerous times no damage.

If the customers don't like where I park... TOO BAD! My car WILL NOT pay for their laziness with the carts. The farther out you park, the more the carts fly!

My rims had a bad week last week... towards the beginning of the week I went to park on the street and a car goes flying around the corner behind me and looked like he was going to hit me... I was watching him in my rear view mirror and not watching the curb, front passenger side rim curbchecked BAD. Then later in the week we were downtown and I let my friend drive my car... he took a turn too close and curbchecked my rear pass. side rim a little worse than the pic in the original post. mine were right on the lip, so I was able to sand them down and you can't really tell... only at certain angles. (mothers aluminum polished them afterwards)

There are still some very minor pits in the metal, but I didn't want to sand off too much.

Ouch, sorry to hear this happened. I know how you feel though, because my mother recently made a similar blunder, and ever since I got my 17" wheels/tires I've been making a surprising number of "parking blunders" through mental sloppiness. No damage yet though.

I'm surprised to see a clamp-on wheel weight on a wheel like that. It looks like one of the new type that is plastic coated, but still, I'd get it changed to the stick on strips of 1/4oz weights. They look much cleaner.

Yea, I had the Cobra in for a Throw-out bearing replacement (still in as of today) and I got the weights on the outside of the wheels replaced with ones that go on the inside. All they had to do was static balance all the wheels. With the price of the weights included and the static balancing, it was $45 from the Ford dealership. Not too bad.

Also, as far as the rim goes, I can't even notice after I cleaned it up a bit. However, since I'm moving to 17x10.5 wheels in the back, I will move one of those 17x9s to the front left to take that one's position.

Thanks a lot for the info guys :D

Glad to hear that it worked out for you. I would have chosen to replace the wheel like you did.

You should really like the stick-on weights; I have them on my Corvette and they offer a much nicer, cleaner appearance. A word to the wise, is to take a piece of silver duct tape and tape over every stick-on weight that has been applied to the wheels. As mentioned earlier, they can come flying off. You may think that it will look ugly this way, but I show my car and the tape is barely visible. As far as leaving a residue behind, that is what 3M Adhesive Remover is for.

Even though I do not wash my car, it is not driven in the rain, and sees less than 1000 miles per year, I have lost a weight in the past (prior to the duct tape trick). It's worth considering.
