Oldie but a goodie: 1992 Lexus SC400

This was actually my first paid detail, but I never posted it here. What did I learn from it? That $50 is way too little for this much work! Good times...

A friend at work was going to sell his Lexus and it needed a good detailing. As you can see in the pictures below, there were some massive scratches in the hood and on the trunk. He had no clue where they came from, but I suspect an angry ex-girlfiend!!!

I told him up front that I wasn't going to be able to get those scratches out, especially since some went all the way through to the metal underneath. But I would try!

All in all, I think I did a pretty fine job. After a few hard passes with the orange pad on 6, it started making a difference. Took me about 5 hours to do the whole thing. Enjoy!

1) Wash with Megs Gold Class

2) Clay with Zaino Z18

3) Wash with Megs Gold Class

4) Poorboys SSR2.5 on orange pad w/ PC on 6 (2x)

5) Poorboys SSR1 on white pad w/ PC on 5

6) Poorboys EX-P on gray pad w/ PC on 3

What i wanna know is how you put THAT many scratches and swirls in your paint...Great job getting em out, thats pretty amazing. Two thumbs up :]

Wow! you must busted your a$$ on those scratches! its amazing you got them off for your friend. Hope on his next ride you charge a little more. Great job!!!!!!!!:2thumbs:

Haha! Yeah, I took off some paaaaaaaaaaaint on the hood, that's for damn sure. Anyone with a paint gauge would have probably fainted. I had the orange pad on there with SSR2.5 and was just putting my weight on it.

I guess I did improve it, hah!

Huge improvement! :2thumbs:

Too bad he didn't tip you. You need to charge more for your :buffing: services next time.

Impressive work using just the PC and SSR 2.5. One question though, did you polish the exhaust tips? :p

Haha, I sure didn't. I was getting cranky towards the end of the detail in regards to the fact that I only charged him $50.

Haha, dude, I'll give you $60 :p

Just kidding...or am I? Great job. Does that even cover material cost?

Even for a friend I would charge at least $100, probably closer to $150.

Yery impressive! Hard to tell that car is 15 years old!

It looks like somebody (is he the original owner?) either sat stuff on the hood and then slid it off, or removed snow in an overzealous fashion.

Looks great, I wondered the same thing about the exhaust tips. Thought maybe they were gold colored but then you cleared that up. I'd be cranky too, maybe the ex-gf did it because he's a cheapskate? How long ago did you do this detail btw? When I read this it sounds like it was a long time ago. I do hope you're charging a great deal more for that kind of work!

Actually, the exhaust tips were gold colored! I gave them a quick swipe but nothing major. Yes, this was quite some time ago. My first paid detail. Prices have gone up since, HAH!
