Alrighty, just getting some experience with the porter cable. I usually do all my stuff by hand, but I can never get ALL the swirls out. Now, I am running into the same problem with a machine. I used 1z paint polish with the Sonus Orange pad. I applied the polish slowly, at speed 2, then I moved the speed up to 4, and then 5. I polished several times. The side I polished is the passenger side of the hood. I need some tips on getting out ALL the swirls...any help would be appreciated.

P.S. I also have vanilla moose glaze...would that help with the swirls at all?

Thanks for your help...Max

Max, try resizing your pictures for viewing. You will need to give the paint several passes with PP until you get the look you want. I usually set my speed at 5 to 5.5. I usually use the yellow pad and then step down to the white pad with Metallic Polish or if you prefer VM. VM will fill any swirls left over.

Not to get into a brand thing, but you clearly need a more aggressive pad/polish combo... a glaze would, typically, just fill/hide.

G'luck.

I agree with Buffit, you need to move to a more aggressive product along with the proper pad. I used my PC DA in the past when I first started detailing to remove those type of scratches but it just don't work.

The spider webs that you see are just fine scratches that are cause by normal washing. Swirls are fine scratches as well but kinda look like a hologram and are cause by high speed buffers with the wrong combo of product and pad. This is the typical result you get from dealer prep when you buy a new car or a $59.95 detail job at the local carwash.

I use my high speed(Mikta) with the setting one click under 3 along with a 8" 3M foam polishing pad and 3M Trizact polish. Down side with the Trizact is the $price$. I have even got great results with Menzerna Intensive Polish in place of the Trizact. If you still have the webs just move to a compound pad with the same products and up the speed 1 or 2 clicks(if needed). That for sure should do it. I don't think you would need to move to a wool pad. Thats when you could start to leave those swirls behind.

Hope this helps.
