Oils left from polishes

Sometimes I think I need to wash car after polishing before LSP other times not. Most of the time I use 1Z polishes which contain oils and waxes and some times it can be very smeary after polishing and wiping off with MF. It must be residual wax and oil left on the surface. I don't like to wash before LSP because of the time it takes. I guess you could QD car before LSP but that also adds wax and doesn't always take away that smeary look. What do you guy's think? What's your process after polishing to ensure a clear finish?

If you're going to put on a glaze/wax/sealer after polishing then a quick spray of 50/50 Iso/water will remove the oils. It also lets you see if you actually removed the defects or just filled them with oils or fillers. Also leaves a clean surface for your next step to bond with.

Thanks for the quick reply Eliot Ness, I've heard Iso/water is good. Can you buy Iso from any hardware store?

It's officially called "Isopropyl rubbing alcohol" and you can get it almost anywhere; Wal-mart, drug stores, etc.. It'll come in two versions, one is 70% and the other is 90% alcohol. Pick up the 90% if they have it, if not the 70% is OK. It's also pretty cheap; I always keep a couple of bottles around.

Thank's John, I'll pick some up today. Should be a real time saver.

I prefer just sucking it up and washing it. Gives me piece of mind that I am getting a "fresh" start before applying a LSP. It also removes any dust (see 3M FC RC) or anything else collected while I broke my balls polishing. I tend to do full polishes only several times a year, and try to stay away from polishes with alot of oils in them (relatively speaking).

Clay + 3M FC RC + 3M MG + Wash + #16 = wonderful process

Sometimes I even use Klean Strip Prep All followed by the IPA mix especially, say after using 1z PP, that ensures for AFAIK, there's no residue still lurking on the surface

I run the hose over the car with no nossle wipe it off with a MF then start LSP.Really no need to wash again
