Oh the Humanity!

Ok…. one of my clients just, as in a few hours ago, took delivery of a nice new Crossfire, black with red interior and has been in my office since then editing her next TV spot,

Well, I just walked up front and looked out my front window and saw my client with a terry towel that I use to clean my marble conference table wiping down her entire car with it…My receptionist saw me cringe and I ran out the door and tried to stop her.

She listened but kept going and then when I suggested getting the car professionally detailed and putting a good sealant on it she said “oh the dealer already put that special stuff on it for me.

At this point I gave up and felt the paint…horrible with crap everywhere and swirls galore…this thing will look like crap in weeks and she doesn’t care!

I need a beer

How can people do this to such awesome cars? Might as well take a old Mustang or GTO and drive it off a cliff. as my dad says "where u get dese brains?"

It is her car and her money and her deal but I have to say it hurt to watch to the point I think I am goig to offer to detail it for free and buy her a car duster as a gift...she is a nice lasy and a good client

LOL...

I've been trying to cultivate a little something on

the side as well. But it seems like the folks I am

talking to (to whom I was going to cut some really

nice discounts) seem to think all it takes is a quick

run through the carwash, some armorall on the tires,

and they are done. They can't seem to justify paying

more for a hand wash/ wax, than just taking their

car to the automwash. The ones that kill me the most

are the guys that have their car "detailed" (ie, passing

a buffer on the car), and being proud of just paying

only $20.00 for the whole deal. You can just see all

the swirls and haze, ridiculous.

I think I will stick to this as just a nice hobby.

Got a better one. Pulled into the gas station today beside a purple plymouth prowler (say that 3 times fast) and the idiot is using the beat up, ratty old window squeegee to "wash" the car after he pumped his gas. He saw the look on my face and gave me a "WTF are you looking at" look. I just shook my head and watched him drive off into the sun, swirls and scratches bringing a tear to my eye...........

I just did a 04 Black Caddy last week that was only washed twice since new last fall and was badly swirled / scratched to the point where I was nervous working it. I found out today a friend of thiers saw it in the garage last winter with hand marks on it like it was wiped down with a rag when dirty with winter crud.

The guy is a lawyer and I guess parts with his money easier than me.

My neighbor constantly all winter uses a plastic snow shovel to clean snow off the car then complained this spring that Hondas paint is crap as he was washing it with plain water and a rag.

ahh i can feel your pain!!! it's just way too common that these people use those squeegee's to "wash" their whole car.

just the other day i saw a "clean" black ES330 with just a bit of dust on it. new dealer plates and everything. i saw him pump gas and after he was done some of the gas fell onto his car a bit.

instead of watering it down a bit and using some sort of towel. he takes the squeegee and starts going at it with immense pride. and to dry it he used the paper towels!!!

:nono

My nephew has a black explorer for about a year. I asked him when was the last time he waxed it. "Oh the dealer said it has a clear coat on it, all you have to do is wash it!" AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can't reason with unreasonable people!

I post an ad on an area bulletin board that gets me a little business. I had a guy post on there after reading my ad "Where can I get my car waxed for a reasonable price. You know, like back in LA where the guy used a "buffing wheel" and you got a nice wax coat that lasted 6 months. I dont wan't to pay $175 (what I was advertising) for something that should only cost $25.

I posted explaining that detailing is a craft and it takes skill and experience, and I wished him luck finding someone that would spend 5 hours with his car for $25. He emailed me and apologized

YES they are painful...................I seen a lady wiping down her car a JAG (in a MACY'S parking lot)with paper towels and water.I walked over to her to tell her that paper towels can do damage to her paint she said not to worry its BOUNTY!I laughed and walked away

Good for you! You must be a good businessman, a nice guy, and most importantly, a CAR GUY (not to mention an Autopian!).

Why is it mainly the nice vehicles that are treated so bad? I saw a lady at a self service place using a scotch brite pad on her S2000 wheels. Then she pulled a dirty, dusty towel out of the back and started drying.... I went over to make a few suggestions and she wasn't having any of it..... so I kindly walked off laughing......

"the world may never know"

It's mostly the nice vehicles, because most of the people who own the other vehicles aren't bothering to "take care" of their vehicles. They can't be bothered to use a Scotchbrite on the wheels or a squeegee to clean the gas spill. :D

my sister always says:

"i don't have time to clean my car"

i tell her

"you always have time to watch your friend's episodes. why not take a re-run and just go wash your car!"

hanks....well, she was one of my first client s and we have been thru some ups and downs togther soo it will be worth it.

On a side note, correction to my first post, is was not my table towel she was using...it was the greasy, filthy rag my editor uses to wipe road grime off his 68 harley when he come in every day!

he he... i think when a person does something stupid to a car, it is like a voo doo doll. The car is the doll, and we're the ones who get the pain.
