here is my situation....



i have a 37' RV to do a one step polish on, going to use megs #66, and then also use a sealant wax, megs #20 on the whole thing....then the windows, the tires, wheels and the chrome needs to be polished....



my offer: 13 bucks an hour or 150, which ever is more, plus lunch, water, etc...I know most detailers pay 10 bucks an hour or less, but i am in a crunch as the guy who I was going to have help me cant use a polisher and I dont feel like polishing the whole thing by myself....



I supply the products, you bring your pads and polisher....I will be using a PC and excel erasure orange and/or megs yellow pads.....the RV is lightly oxidized and minor water spotting here and there. i will be the one on the roof only!



anyone interested in helping, let me know by thursday....the RV is located in garden grove in orange county!!!
 
well we (friend of mine) washed it in one hour, and i polished the whole thing in 9 hours....the roof was extremely oxidized! went through 10 pads of the lake country orange and yellow and the megs yellow....still have to polish the wheels, put on a sealant wax, and hit the windows and tires....ill get some pics tomorrow....i am exhausted...
 
did you detail the inside too? How much did you charge? I just did a 28ft RV on Fri got $15 per ft for just wash on outside and complete interior cleaning :) took 5 hours
 
I only polished the outside with 66 and then went back with megs 21 sealant....took about 17-18 hours total by myself...10 hours on saturday, 5 on sunday by myself to wax and shine the chrome and dress tires, and clean the windows....without my help on saturday, I think that it would have taken about another 3 hours because he was working by hand, not PC....slow

tips I learned....

-use a cutting pad with 66 to remove oxidation super fast on fiberglass, no marring visible on white!!!

-speed 6 on the pc applying sealants on whole panels is really good and fast!

-66 on rubber trim removes water spots!!!

-66 on chrome with cutting pad shines really well!

-hiring help who is a friend and he doesnt show up when he said he will really screws up timing for the day!!! had to call into my other job and tell them I could not make it...lost out on more money!!!

-37 feet takes a long time working by PC....best bet to finish in one day is either use a rotary, or have someone else to help you polish....

-$15 per foot is not enought for one step polish and one step sealant....more like 17-18 per hour, then 23-25 for compounding too, and I wouldnt even think about claying one....

-I really like doing things by foot!!! - makes more profits in the end....so long as you get it done in a reasonable amount of time...
 
17-18 hours!?!?!?!?!!?!? You need to work on that. Two of my guys can knock out a two step in about 5 -6 hours.



If the rig is fiberglass, next time skip the #66 and go to Meguiars marine line and use #49 topped with #20. Stay away from the rotary if at all possible. You will create more problems than you will solve.



If it is painted use DACP followed buy #20 or #21.

Thats about 12 man hours and I'm sure your guys are trained well so they're very quick and efficient. 17 hours doesn't sound like a completely unreasonable amount for the first time.
 
i dont know how much faster I could have gone...one guy working on the whole thing....gets tiring...up and down the ladder takes a toll on me...I started with a megs yellow pad, but I wasnt getting great results, so I later switched to a more cutting pad, a LC orange, and it went a lot faster and looked a lot better....next time I should be able to cut it down to about 13-14 hours by myself, or 10 with someone else polishing too...

Are you arguing with yourself or making my point? Seems like you get the idea now.
 
no no, i get it.....but a 37' RV by myself....thats a lot of work!!!! i think i have another one in a few weeks, so we will see houw much faster it goes with two people polishing and waxing
