Observation on Optimum Gloss-Coat

I've had Optimum Gloss-Coat Paint Coating on my car for about 5 weeks now and I wanted to share an observation. It's a little difficult to explain solely with text so I've mad a quick illustration to show my problem.

Optimum Gloss-Coat has insane water beading. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it an 11 for water beading.

The "issue" is presented to me every morning. I find beads of water all over my car, including the roof.

When I sit down in my car, the soft suspension causes the roofline to be lowered.

The result is all of the water beads slide off the roof, and soak my pants.

So far, I've loved everything about this coating. My car looks amazing, it stays MUCH cleaner, washing and drying the car is much easier, and I can sleep well at night knowing I've got a lot of UV inhibitors protecting my clearcoat.

I just thought others would find humor in my first "issue" with Gloss-Coat ;) Or maybe I should lay off the pizza?

From the illustration it is obvious the 14 year old touring type suspension on your 2000 Sable needs a little update. :inspector:
 
I've had it on my own car since late July and it still beads like crazy. And maintaining with ONR Wash and Wax, it looks as good as when it was applied. I could use Opti-Coat Pro on my own car but given the price difference and ease of use along with 2 years (and maybe more, we'll see) durability, I can apply it twice and have 4 years protection for less than OC Pro.

I have to say as an update, I've tried several different waxes on Gloss-Coat so far and so far I prefer Gloss-Coat by itself. I washed the car a couple weeks ago with APC added to the shampoo to strip off any waxes, and the insane beading/sheeting action was restored. My car stays cleaner, longer with only Gloss-Coat on the paint.
 
I think products added over the coatings tend to inhibit their ability to perform. A lot of our "favorite" products leave a sticky surface, including some car washes. The only exception I've found so far is Car Pro's RELOAD product.
 
The one ABSOLUTE key to longevity with Gloss Coat, Opti-Coat or other coatings is a "clean surface". By this I mean a clean oil free surface. Waxes and such are basically oils, when using a wax you are laying down an layer of oil and that oil will collect and attract grime. The build up of grime will collect and degrade your gloss and over time contaminate your coated surface.

Car washes and dealers are notorious for laying down a solvent based tire dressing which stays wet and collects road grime. Your next visit to the car wash has more solvent tire dressing lathered over dirty tires which collects even more grime. After a short period you will have a thick crust of crap on your tires and all up in your wheel wells and it's a pain to remove. Same goes for paint, but obviously not to the same degree.

So if you keep your paint grease and oil free your Gloss-coat will last for its intended time.

hey Vega, or anyone else that can possibly answer my quick question…..

How well did you wipe down the vehicle with an IPA or Eraser after polishing it with Menz and before applying the Gloss Coat?

Reason I ask, is because I'm beginning to question/wonder whether or not I did a thorough enough job wiping down the paint for the coating to actually bond.

Not that i'm seeing anything differently, but am just wondering if I did a good enough job for the coating to last.

When I apply a coating such as CQUK or Opti-coat, I would give it an ONR wash after polishing, then I would dry it and go over the car with a slow wipe using Eraser. Then I would inspect the paint using LED light for any polish dust before putting down my coating of course. I think you are fine :)
 
Mannnn! That is insane gloss Scott! Jee wiz! I'm just hearing about this product. Never knew that opti coat was discontinued.
 
For a coating its not bad. Leave it to Dr G to realize that coatings up until now have been...meh...on the looks. Kudos to optimum.

Opti-Coat Pro is still available to Pros. Gloss-Coat is a replacement for Opti-Coat 2.0. Looks incredible, very easy to apply and if how it looks on my own car after a July application and a terrible (by north Texas standards) winter, it's going to continue to look good for at least another 18+ months.
