Nothing sticks to Opti-Coat... or does it? Lets find out....

Interesting thread.... While using FK1000P on another application I applied some in the middle of the hood of my wife's OC'd Forester. Beading was noticeably different that next week when it rained and you could tell exactly where the FK treated area was. However, the difference was barely noticeable after the next wash and not discernible at all the week after. The FK could still have been on top but there was no difference that I could see or feel after a couple of weeks/washes. Nothing scientific but just a casual observation based on my own slapdash experiment.

….btw, the car is garaged and while it did rain the week after application, the FK had a couple of dry days to cure.

Interesting, how old was your OC? Mine was a little over a year old when I tried.

I have contacted optimum on several occasions, depending on who I have talked to I have gotten that opti-seal will last a month over OC and then others say that OCW is what should be used. I don't think any of them have actually tried it tbh. I guess if you want to wax/seal your car the best thing to do is not apply a super sealant at all and just wax or seal your car. You can't really have the best of both worlds with this stuff IMO.

Since both OptiSeal and OCW take less than 10 minutes to apply if you feel they add to the look and last even a few weeks I would say it is not much extra work to get an enhanced appearance.

Or, I could strip it off and get something that looks better right off the bat and not have to keep spending money on buying LSP's for 20.00 or more that last 2 weeks. I'm not downing OC as a whole... but with the newer products I think they should try to up their game in the looks department.

For me, NOTHING looks better than multiple coats of a good sealant, but the scratch and chemical resistance just isn't there like it is with OC, Cquartz, etc. I'm also one who enjoys washing and cleaning my car ... like everyone here i'm sure. I've thought many many times about just going back to one of the "harder" sealants if you will. Something marr resistant, but I also cannot deny the fact that a super sealant is always going to have that better scratch resistance. I've got 13k miles on my Subaru WRX and with cheap paint and AWD most of the time there's quite a bit of sand blasting that's happened by now. I can count the total chips in my paint all over the car on 1 hand. The OC is very hard and durable stuff. I just want to try something else is all.

They have, don't you think?

Please tell me what sealant keeps its looks longer than the first rain. Lets say whatever you apply washes off at the first rain (it doesn't). Your car is dirty at the point and it doesn't matter what is on it, it doesn't look its best. Assuming whatever LSP you had on there just slid off, wouldn't a base of OC look much better?

And really, if you are that dissatisfied with the looks of OC, I'm willing to bet you haven't polished your paint to perfection.

^^^ Boring looking white after 350 miles and several rain storms.

A good pic can make any cars paint look good, and well thought out lighting can make it look even better. Not to say I have an issue with how OC looks, I'm just saying. ;)

I wish I had the luxury of better lighting or was good at taking pictures.

Personally, for me, HD POLISH is the best looking finishing polish. Although some of the above pictures have 205, not HD polish, I am always amazed how much OC adds to the finish once I am done applying.

Have you not tried any of the newer glass coatings yet?

I'm not a pro, but my paint was polished correctly, under halogens and the car was also brand new... so yes, I know how to polish a car. I'm not the only one who thinks OC isn't the best looking out there and that it's more known for it's durability than it's looks.

No I haven't.

Talk to Corey and see if he'll get you a sample of CQF...22ple looks good too. Side by side on black paint the 3 are night and day in terms of darkening. ;)

In what order?

I just placed an order with Corey, it would be too late now. Best if I buy, I'm not in your league, where you ask and you receive. :D

But hey, at least no one refuses to sell me products. :D

I tried to get some, couldn't do it with the waiver. Not signing anything until I have tried it and know my customers will be happy with it. I understand they have their rules though.

I had to sign a waiver for Opti-Coat pro too.

I bought my first sample...just an FYI. ;)

In terms of darkening, CQF > 22ple > OC.
