NorthStar Pressure Washers?

Hey guys,

I'm looking at getting a pressure washer to detail my car and do some jobs around the house. I need it to clean the patio too, and maybe some siding from time to time. I'm debating whether or not to get a Karcher 2600 PH or this NorthStar 2800 psi. Details on the NorthStar are below..what do you guys think?

NorthStar Pressure Washer — 2800 PSI, 2.5 GPM | Gas/Cold Water | Northern Tool + Equipment

FYI, I also wanted to add the Cam Spray foam gun attachment onto whatever pressure washer I end up with. Keep that in mind.

Thanks guys,

Mike

I have a North Star pressure washer. Its really nice and powerful. The power is easily adjustable too via a knob on the pump. If you are gonna buy gas powered I would suggest a Cat pump. They are much more durable.

I have not heard anything bad about the NorthStar pressure washers, BUT... I recommend you buy a pressure washer from a local pressure washer dealer, who services what they sell. I wouldn't buy something like this online.

I have the professional model with the industrial Honda engine with the Cat pump.....LOVE IT.

I have had 2 electric Karchers (both junk) and a recent gas PW (briggs motor) that seized. IMHO I would look for a high quality electric after having used both gas and electric for detailing. Electric is just easier to use IMO and when they work fine there a breeze. I think im going to spring for the cam spray 1500, very high quality electric rated at 2.0gpm... plus its very small. Just my 2 cents.

I've got both an electric from Northern Tool with Comet pump and a gas B&S with CAT pump. Each has it's own pros and cons.

The electric is quiet, easy to start and weighs less. But I couldn't use it in my home garage because of the amperage and wiring in my old house's garage. Required a dedicated 15A, and couldn't use it in my mobile detail setup because the induction motors use a high surge wattage on start up that my EU2000 couldn't supply. So if you've got the electric capacity or are in a fixed location, go electric. I have used it successfully, but needed to plug into the laundry outlet.

Gas is louder- significantly moreso in enclosed areas and requires more maintenance. While using the choke and pull cord may not compare to simply flipping a switch, I'd take manual start and the noise over having to use a 100FT extension cord anyday. If your home has a large footprint or it's only for occasional use- go gas. I use gas on my mobile detailing rig.
