Well, Detailed or at least attempted to do the exterior of my new 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. Started out by washing, 2 bucket method, clayed, then applied 1 coat of NXT to it via PC, removed by hand with MF towel. First opinion is NXT seems to be very easy to work with, the results to me were good. Of course before I could start the 2nd coat, my 4 month old daughter started to get sick, so the wifey called me in from the garage. Anyway, I also used Poorboy's trim restorer cuz dodge and most new trucks see fit to use black trim for everything, looks good, we shall see how it holds up. After working on the truck for a while I think I might be developing OCD. :) Any suggestions for topping NXT? I have heard #16 is good as a topcoat. Any opinions? BTW, I live north of Chicago, so the winters have snow/sleet/freezing rain/ lots of salt & sand..:)

It looks like you're off to a good start!

That black trim is the bane of my existence! I'm currently using PB Trim Restorer and it holds up very well here in AZ. But we don't have your IL winters, so :dunno.

Hope your daughter's feeling better! Then you can spend MORE time on the truck!! ;)
 
Welcome to DC. You could top that NXT with a lot of different things. Natty's looks good. Sounds like the bug is biting. You're in the right place to learn, that's for sure!!

I've never used the product (thinking about trying it though) but I've read many good things about Collinite wax, specifically #476 and/or #845.

Durability is supposed to be the best & they claim their products are detergent-proof which, if true, is pretty impressive.

I encourage you to buy from DC sponsors but, as of right now, none of them is carrying Collinite products. Further reading available here:

Daughter is doing better, nothing major. One thing I found out the hard way was that the city water where I live has extremely hard water. My truck had been outside the night before and it rained, plus it had not been washed for a week or so, it was dirty. Now after the wash and MF towel dry it looked worse, I mean it had spots all over it, thank god I clayed, and waxed, it would have been a nightmare. I have just about made the decision to buy a water softener and have a hot & cold supply ran to the garage. In the meantime until I have the finances, a buddy recommended washing like I do, but trying to use the mr clean car stuff to rinse to help with the spotting. I was like no, I am not using mr clean car rinse on my baby, but after the experience this weekend, until I get a softener put in, I just might. BTW, yes, I have supported the sponsors, I have purchased from AutoGeek and Premium Auto Care. Good service from both!
 
Mr. Clean

Sometimes I use the Mr. Clean attachment on the hose for the sole purpose of rinsing using the PuR waterfilter rinse. I don't use the wash or anything, but for a quick wash I have used it on the filtered setting and then proceeded to wipe dry with a MF what was left. Works good for me.
