No Name Polish

I was recently sent from Optimum car products a polish to test out for them and give them some feedback.

Of course the maker of the polish built it up as the next best thing to sliced bread, canned beer etc.

I have heard all that before so I was not expecting anything different from this polish. Because of todays weather, overcast and cloudy (threats of rain) I have 2 details cancel on me but I had 5 regular washes to do still.

One was a black Lexus SC430 so I figured this would be a great test vehicle. I broke out my rotary, placed a LC orange power pad on it and purposely swirls the heck out of one side of the hood and trunk.

On the other side of the hood there was some light marring and water spots so on this side I used my Cyclo with the new orange power pads for the Cyclo and the new Optimum polish. When the maker of the product told me a little goes along way he was not kidding. I applied way too much to the Cyclo pads. The Cyclo orange power pads work great......more on them on another test.

The Optimum Polish worked OK with the Cyclo, easy working, needs some work wiping off, leaves a nice finish and is low dusting.

I then wanted to see how it worked with the swirls. I put a new LC polishing pad on my rotary and applied a small drop of the polish to the hood, 1200 RPM's and man.......this is when the polish really came to life. I was VERY impressed by this polish.

It TOTALLY removed the swirls and left a bright squeaky clean finish. No oils or fillers and it was easier to remove the less you use.

It has an amazing working time also, much longer that most products I have tried in the past. I would put it in between IP and FP. Not as abrasive as IP but then not as mild as FP.

Here are a few AFTER pics of the Lexus, please bear in mind that it was a heavy overcast day sovery little sun. Also keep in mind that there is NO wax on the finish. This is just the polish.

Optimum also sent me their tire dressing. It leaves a nice semi-glossy finish and is a rather thick dressing. It appears to be water based but I am not yet positive of that. Here is a picture of the tire dressing.

I hope to test the Opt. Polish more on Monday as I have a black BMW to detail. The Polish is not yet for sale but I will keep you all up to date of its progress. I am first in line for a gallon or two:up

This polish will be in my top 3 polishes for sure:xyxthumbs

Doesn't sound like something that'll work with PC because of the long working time you mentioned with the rotary. Who knows. Thanks for sharing with us and nice work on the LEX

Anthony , those orange pads sure sound like orange Lake Country pads.

Please, you gotta find an Audi to try this polish on via Cyclo. Definitely report back if you do! :up

My girlfriend is gonna murder me...

I can't get any more products, but when Anthony puts this along the lines of FP/IP, I almost can contain myself :)

Great review but I can't believe you intentionally swirled a car to test a product!

I gather you feel the Optimum polish works better by rotary than a Cyclo, eh?

Anthony- Do you think you could've used the Cyclo (instead of the rotary) to remove the rotary-induced damage? I get the feeling the new orange pads might be changing the scope of the Cyclo's abilities but I suppose it's a combo of product and pad that really determines what can/cannot be done.

Hello All, so sorry about my late reply.....very busy weekend with kids and birthdays:eek:

jroc1212 - The working time is a big plus, with the PC, Cyclo or rotary as you just use a bit less product. I have not been yet tried it by hand buthope to during the week. It can be worked for a very long time, the longer the better it seems with an orbital as this helps in the removal.

BillD - I have an Audi A8 to detail, except that it's WHITE!! If I can find a dark colored one I'll see if they are up to allowing me to do their car. I have not yet heard back from Cyclo on the orange pads, whether they are LC or not.

Alan - The polish is from Optimum and as of today I don't believe it is yet ready to be sold. As soon as it is I will post up links on the few folks who will carry it. I though am first in line:xyxthumbs

Scottwax - Yeah...first I stick chewing gum in my carpet and now swirl a black Lexus.....what's next:nixweiss

Accumulator - I believe the Cyclo with the orange pads just may have removed those swirls but I don't believe I would of been able to do it with the Optimum polish and the orange pads. I may have had to use something more along the lines of menzerna PG and then polish down from there. So it mayhave been done but a few extra steps would have been needed.

I am calling Cyclo with some things of concern about the new orange pads and the new velcro they have on them. The velcro pads are now the same size (in diameter) as the whole foam pad which causes the pads to cut into each other. The older pads did not have this problem as the velcro was slightly smaller that the diameter of the foam pad itself.

The orange pads themselves though are fantastic:up Much better than my homemade versions:D

My black BMW 6 canceled on me today:( BUT I hope to do a few other details in the week so I will post up an update on the new Optimum polish and the Cyclo pads.

Thanks,

Anthony

Anthony, I really appreciate your correspondence. On my white Caddy I actually find a trouble light with a 75 or 100 watt bulb to be best at pointing out marring and left over swirls.

Hey, if you can, could you post a pic of these orange pads? I know we all would really appreciate it :xyxthumbs

Anthony- I can see how the velcro sizing could be an issue, hopefully they can adjust their production. Are the orange Cyclo pads thin like the green and white ones or thicker like the Cyclo yellow and/or most other brands of pads? Sorry to be so full of questions :o I oughta just call them and inquire for myself (gotta call and check on the older Cyclo they're going over anyhow).

Thanks for the "would've needed PG" info, I'm trying to get a good feel for what combos I can use with the Cyclo in place of the rotary. Never tried the PG, I gather it's a good step more aggressive than say Hi-Temp Medium Cut, right?

Have fun doing the A8, I truly enjoy doing those cars even if they are a bit of work. Heh heh, over 60 slots in the upper grill alone, each with four surfaces, IIRC. FWIW, I use AIO to clean such areas, with a MF wrapped around a thin dowel (actually, half of an old wooden clothespin for the larger ones).
