no more beading=trouble?

On January 6th, I applied one layer on collinite 476s on my car. On the first day that it rained, the beading was so nice that I took a picture of it in the rain with my camera phone. Nearly a month later, the beading seems nonexistent.



It is only a weekend car. I live in NYC where the snow hasn't really hit yet. The car has been driven in snow/salt once. It isn't garaged.



What can be the cause? I am worried that nothing is protecting the paint. Please tell me this isn't the case.



Is it ok to wash my car with ONR and add another layer of wax after 8 days of driving in a span of one month? is claying necessary?

sure its okay to wash and apply more wax



you might find the beading is poor if the car is slightly dirty..you need a clean surface to bead well

if you washed it then it would probably bead again

if there is a layer of dirt or dust it may not beed the same

but I would think the protection is still there

Ditto that, it must be dirty. I have 845 on my car, which isn't supposed to be quite as durable as the 476 and it was still beading a couple weeks ago when it was last washed. And it was applied in early October.

As was mentioned when you wash your car the beading should be re-established. A non-self-cleaning LSP will loose it ability to demostrate beading with a layer of dirty film.

If the beading does not return "something is not there any longer. Protection. :nixweiss

Beading will be there after using QEW/ONR since they both will create their own beading. So the only way to truly test if the Collinite is still beading and thru inference still protecting is to wash with a protectant-free shampoo.



My guess is that the Collinite is still there after a month.

the Collinite is still there. You probably have a layer of dirt on it. Collinite works fairly well during winter time but because it's a wax it can allow dirt and salt to stick more than true sealants.

Rewash the car and the beads will magically reappear in your eyes

Only thing that has me is that 476S *is* what I'd consider a self-cleaning wax :nixweiss



But yeah, 476S oughta still be there after a month (or three ) unless you're living in some quite severe environmental conditions. The maybe three layers of 476S (I'd have to check my records) that I put on the Blazer last autumn are still holding up fine.

Dried dirt isn't going to bead. Think of the surface irregularaties.

Severely beaten, permeable old finishes may lose protection after a very short period of time - no matter what is/was on the surface. But that's the minority.
