Nitro Definitely a Bold New Design

These are one of those cars that you need to see on the road otherwise you won't know what I'm talking about. It almost looks like a Mini Range Rover. I saw a black one the other day that was all tinted out and I did a double take. Hats off to Dodge for making a unique mid-size SUV.:xyxthumbs

Funny you should post this, today I was driving down t he parkway and I noticed one next to me. Very nice vehicle, great styling.

One of the things about living in the Detroit area is who get to see these cars around long before the rest of the country sees them on the road. I dig Dodge's styling for sure.

Saw one and thought it was going for the mimi hummer macho look.

Have to admit the TV commercial of it falling all the way thru the earth is one of the best car adds on now.

Heh, to each their own I suppose. I *hate* the look of the Nitro, to me it is about as visually repulsive as anything on the road today, and there are a lot of vehicles on the road today I don't care for. Looks like the bastige child of a Toyota Four Runner and a Hummer, and it ended up with exactly zero of the positive aspects of either.

I may be a bit biased though, my family owned a couple mid '90s Dodge vehicles for many years and I can only hope that their reliability (and paint quality) has increased since that time. About the only thing Dodge ever did that I cared for is the Ram pickup. I've got a cousin with a Ram, seems put together pretty well.

Just my 2 pennies.

+1

I don't think it is repulsive but I really don't like it either. Put along side a Infinity FX45 or a Lexus RX350 it looks like an old Jeep to me.

I think the Nitro is another of the many Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep vehicles that I have to say "gimme a few months" on. By that I mean that for some reason every time the Daimler group throws out a new vehicle that everyone loves I hate it at first and then it somehow grows on me over time. When the changed the Ram (2000ish) I hated it, now I love it, the new Cherokee...hated it, now love it, the Charger I absolutely abhored because it doesn't look like anything like a real charger and now....well, I still can't openly say I like it because I feel I'm letting down a legend, but I'll say it's not as bad looking as I thought it was before (call it something else and I'll like it!). This pattern applies to most of their cars with me, so for now I'll just hold my thoughts on the Nitro until I can see a few more on the road with some tasteful mods done and then I'll make my decision.

There are a couple of these at church that I have seen. And up close I really like the design and the look. They are definitely something unique, but personally I think that is one thing it has going for it.

When I saw one on the street I thought, if I had a 16 year old son I'd add this to the list of cars I would buy for him.

But, I am concerned with the saftey, it is a Jeep Liberty after all. I dont know that I would want my 16 year old son driving one of those.

I still think Dodge has the best looking products available. Hats off to their concept dept!

I'm also going to have to go against the grain and dissagree..

This was a thread to post opinions in right?

Anyways, out of all the car manufactures, I tend to label dodge as having the worst concept department... (with fords recent "Bold" venture trying to take over that spot)

I hate looking at their cars and seeing things identicle across the board... like take the radio for example... the Dodge viper has the exact same radio that the neon has, that the ram has, that the charger has, that everying thas... the dash layouts are basically the same. the seats are the same etc.

If I'm going to spend the money for a viper, I want something that when I'm sitting in it reminds me that I'm driving a viper, and not a neon.

Their cars are bold which I admire, but it may get to the point of TOO radical.... I personally love smooth lines and for a car to flow.. to many boxy cars on the road.

Plus... dodges are crap. the reason American cars have a bad stereotype. I worked at a car shop over the summer and a huge amount of all cars coming in were crapped out younger dodges.. (the main cars coming in were VWs, specifically the jetta.)

That being said... I wish the nitro well.. it has a place in the market and seems like a viable choice.

The Dodge Nitro looks like a crossbreed between the new 07 Escalade and the new Jeep Grand Cherokee. Not that unique IMO.

At least Dodge didn't screw up the Charger as bad as GM screwed up the GTO.

They're very solid, but like many small SUV's with short wheelbases they are prone to toppling over. And not to mention maneuverability...

What happened to the innovative Chrysler of the 80s and 90s?

LOL...slammed! I have driven the GTO (2005) and it is pretty fast and good suspension for daily driving but the styling reminds me of a cavalier on steriods.

As for the Nitro...i think it will take me a while to get used to it.

I actually like the looks, but from personal experiences, EVERY and I mean EVERY Chrysler product I have every owned (4 vehicles) has been a complete disaster!! The quality and reliability is no where near that of other brands that are much better!!

I've seen a couple of these around town and they definitley have bold styling. Everything else in the "cute ute" category looks the same, it's all soft and feminine. I think Dodge saw an opportunity here to make something destinctive in the class. This thing is a family car. But at least it doesn't look like every other soccer mom vehicle out there.

The only thing that I dislike is that the fenders only come in body colour if you buy the full loaded R/T model. The ones I've seen here have the generic plastic fenders. It kills the look of it.

Totally agree with that! Dodge has been putting out some intense in-your-face styling, which tends to be polarizing in nature. But I LOVE their designs, and this one is no exception. :2thumbs:

If only Chrysler could start making some half-decent interiors, and maybe a little reliability would be nice. My Dad is on his third Jeep Grand Cherokee--the first two started falling apart (literally...we'd find new screws laying around the interior every day) after only 50,000 miles!!!!!! And don't get me started on that so-called "5-star service"...

jfelbab--Sorry man, but those two examples are raised misshapen feminine station wagons. :nono
