Hi Opal !
Hope all is going well for you !
So a new car ? How fun is that ??
Are you looking at the Nissan 370Z ? Those are nice looking, and very stylish looking - you always notice one when you see it.
Blipping the throttle when downshifting is part of what you do when racing, and use your heel on the gas to "blip" the throttle just enough to get the transmission gears up to the same speed as the engine speed so that they engage smoothly, and the balance of the car is not upset, when you push in the clutch and engage the lower gear, and at the same time, use the toe of that same foot to engage the brake pedal, to slow down before the turn, hairpin curve, etc., of the course you are driving on.
If you are really good at hearing the speeds of both tranny and engine, you can actually shift the transmission without using the clutch - truckers do this all the time. I had a friend with a Volkswagen who drove it all the time without using the clutch, and it was never jerky or anything.
Anyway, you will probably never need to downshiift this way anyway, and the other poster said that the car does it for you somehow, so you will be ok.
I believe this vehicle you are looking at is still a 2-Seater or if it has a backseat, it must be small?
I rented one once a few years ago in California, and it was a hoot to drive.
Good luck with your car search !
