Nissan/Infinity Self Healing clear

"Luck" Residue of design
I recieved a call from a regular client this morning, he told me the sad news that he rolled his car yesterday. The good news is that he is just a bit bruised but otherwise ok. He is going to purchase a brand new Nissan Altima today. He questioned me about the paint protection plan that the dealerships offer for $500 and I gave him the skinny on that scam.

I also told him what I know about self healing clear as per what I have read on the forums about it. Do any of you guys and gals know if this self healing clear is on all new Nissan vehicles or just the Infinity or perhaps on the most expensive models only? He intends to buy off the lot so I told him to ask about it and to try and avoid it if it's just an added option. So is it an option or is it coming standard on all Nissan Models? My next stop is going to be Google but I wanted to get the detailers knowlege as well.

Additional questions would be, (for those who have polished self healing paint) How do you handle this paint? What polishers, what products, what process do you use? Does clay work the same on self healing paint? Is a wax or a sealant best on self healing paint?

Thanks for any offered knowlege, TD

I saw the article was from 2005 an I had a 2005 Nissan Murano whose paint would get swirls on it if you looked at it the wrong way. This is the first I have heard self healing clear. I wish my Nissan had it.

from what I have read about it it is a nightmare to polish if you attack it with the traditional process. My understanding is that it needsa to be tackled with a DA and a less abrasive polish and that correcting the paint in the heat of summer is very difficult to near impossible. It sounds like a nightmare to me. Thanks for the link Dave

When I first read that article I was impressed until I came to the part that said it will last 3 years.
i don't know how much it cost but unless it is only a hundred bucks I'm sure I will pass on that.

If you spent a lot for it and traded it in 3 years later you will not get any thing back on your investment because the scratch guard is depleted.

Also if it takes a week to mend the damage from the tunnel wash and you wash it once a week guess what. :crazy2::passout:

I mean no disrespect by saying this and am not trying to be argumentative in any way but I would like to see a photo of the sun's reflection on the hood of your car to see the exact true condition of the paint. Check this thread out that I linked to below and look at the difference between the first photo on the first page compared to the first photo on the second page. The sun's reflection in the hood on the second page really shows the true condition of the paint.
