Hi everyone. We've got another GT-R correction today. This is a 2012 Black Edition that was in need of some correction. It had the normal swirls instilled by the low quality washings performed at the dealership. It wasn't in terrible shape, but it did need some TLC.
First the wheels, tires, and wheel wells were addressed. The tires and wheel wells were cleaned with B lackfire APC 3:1 while the wheels and brake calipers were cleaned with Iron X. Due to their color it was tough to tell they were dirty, but as you can see in the third photo, they were filthy.
The wheels were sealed with Four Star Sealant, the tires dressed with Blackfire Tire Dressing, and the wells dressed with Meguiars Hyper Dressing. I forgot to take a close up after picture, but you can see them completed in the final pictures.
Next the rest of the exterior was addressed. The vehicle was foam with Hyperwash and APC to help remove any wax or glaze that might have been applied by the dealership. While it dwelled the trim, body seams, emblems, and fuel filler area were agitated with a soft RackGlaze brush.
As you can see there isn't any foam on the roof. I did this because the roof was wrapped in a flat carbon fiber overlay, and I didn't want the APC to stain it, or affect it's bond. This area was cleaned with Chemical Guys Matte Detailer, and protected with Swissvax Opaque.
After the foaming a traditional wash was performed with Hyperwash. That was followed by a light claying and application of Iron X. Now we could see the true condition of the paint. The flake hides a lot, but you can see that there were some swirls and RIDS that would need to be addressed.
A two step approached was chosen which consisted of Meguiars D300 on an MF cutting pad, followed by Meguiars M205 on a green Uber foam pad. All polishing was performed with the Meguiars G110. Here is how the paint turned out.
Finally the glass was cleaned with Megs Glass cleaner, the trim dressed with Auto Finesse, and the exhaust tips polished with Collinite Metal Wax.
I must say that I enjoyed working on this car quite a lot. I admit that GT-R's just look plain mean in black, but this color really grew on me over the course of the detail. It can look a couple different shades of blue depending on what light and angle you see it from. I really like it. Anyway, that does it. Thanks for looking, and I look forward to your feedback!
