Nikon questions (and where to a get a deal).

Charlie that was all over my head. I guess I need to read up some

No worries, it was all over my head at first too when I got my DSLR in the spring of this year. After talking to Bill about some stuff and picking up a couple books to read through I was able to start making more sense of things. Before I knew how to make pictures look decent, but I didn't know why I was doing what I was doing ;)

The 50mm / f1.8 on a crop sensor camera will be around 85mm in full frame so almost a portrait. With a large aperture, you can control background better (shoot wide open, not much in focus ahead or behind). It is also good in low light but if you rely image stabilization its benefit is reduced. (usually 2 full stops faster than many zooms).

It is extremely lightweight. For a crop sensor, the normal lens would be a 35mm focal length.

Adam I'll take you up on that when I return from The GWN.

Shiny- Once upon a time I took a photography class, but honestly that has been so long ago. I remember going over lens and ratings but I think (long ago) that we did it on film cameras.

In your pictures the background is out of focus, is this a function of the lens or the FS you had the camera set on? What would be the FS of a standard 18-55 lens? Or does it vary depending on the zoom?

Thanks

Have a safe trip Todd speak to you soon buddy
