heya all,

just wondering - my car is really badly swirled (yeah i know... just come out of exams... kinda got negleted and sat under a tree for 4 weeks :S).

i have been looking after it mostly with a PC, but i now haven't got enough time to be putting massive amounts of time into it with many, many passes.

my mates dad was a car painter and will give me a few quick lessons on how to use the rotary, plus having read every single post here i could find about using the rotary, the skills shouldn't be a problem.

however. - the products!

I have SSR2.5 and SSR1, what pad and polish combo should i use?

i am going to buy one of those new double sided edge pads with the snap adapter but can only really afford one pad. i'm thinking i won't need the black one, but would the yellow plus SSR2.5 then SSR1 have enough cutting power with a rotary but still leave the surface marr free... i also have megs #80 which i am keen to use in there somewhere.

i don't think the green pad will have enough cutting power for my car... which as stated earlier is quite badly swirled (although really smooth due to my love of clay :grinno: )

dark blue metallic, subaru impreza..

finishing products i have klasse AIO, and pinnacle souveran.

cheers for all your help!

If your car is "really badly swirled", you're going to need more than one pad. You'll need a cutting pad to remove those swirls, and you'll likely need a polishing pad to remove some light hazing left by the cutting pad and compound.

I'd use SSR2.5/yellow or SSR2.5/orange, and then SSR1/green. Honestly I'd probably end up using SSR3, but since you don't have that, I didn't recommend it.

I never start with a cutting pad, 3M black is what I try out first with compounds and polishes and only step up to edge yellow if necessary

I've tried Propel green with SSR2.5 on Honda paint. All it does is fix the minor swirls. There are swirls and fine scratches left over after I am done. I went to the yellow Propel with SSR2.5 and it took out all the swirls and some of the scratches. After that I followed up with a blue Propel and SSR1.
