Newbie with RBP Impreza

OK, so I have been reading these forums (and the detailing guide) for a while and have been trying to figure out the exact procedure for detailing my car and what products to use. I own a Rally Blue Pearl 1998 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS and it is in need of a good detailing(has swirls, small scratches etc.). I am getting a PC 7424 & sonus pads for Christmas and want to start collecting the products so I can detail over the christmas break.

Here is what I have in mind right now, if someone could tell me which pads to use for each as well I would appreciate it:

Wash - Eagle 1 Wet Car Wash

Claybar - Mothers

Swirl remover - SSR2.5

Polish - ????

Sealant - Poorboys EX-P

Wax - Turtle Wax Ultra Gloss?? Meguiars #16 Professional Carnauba Paste Wax:?? Natty's Blue??? Souveren??? (Maybe a layering of 2 of them??)

Also what is the process for doing this? From reading I understand it to be, Wash- Claybar - Wash - Swirl Remover - Polis - Wax - Sealant. Is this correct??

One more question, can I apply all these products with the PC or should I do some by hand?

Phew...I know, alot of questions but I have not been able to find the exact answers that I have been looking for so I thought I would finally post and hope someone would help me out.

Thanks very much!!

Anyone? I know there is a wealth of knowledge in this place...someone please help. I don't want to waste my time on stuff that will not work properly. Thanks!

if you want an OTC wash, gold class or NXT would be a better opinion (in my opinion of course). nxt is harsher than GC, but cleans better. You choose the tradeoff.

the clay magic clay bar + clay lube pack is great for $10

SSR2.5 followed by SSR1 is a commonly used combo here that works really well. Menzerna IP/FPII/P085RD is another great combo. I use Optimum Compound and Polish myself. use the more aggressive polish with a light cutting pad (color depends on company that makes it) and the finer polishes with a polishing pad.

EX-P is a great sealant, as is UPP, FMJ, etc

I'd say natty's blue would be the best out of those on your color. Recently there was a WRB 06 wrx on here that had AIO/UPP/NB and it looked amazing.

your process is slightly flawed, just switch the sealant and wax steps so that it reads wash, clay, wash, swirl remover, polish, sealant, wax

wash and clay by hand, the rest by pc. use a finishing pad for the last two steps.

Concentrate on your prep work. Take your time, don't miss any areas doing the clay and most important...work your polish in well. I'm assumming you are using a PC. Go panel at a time and if you don't have the shine you want do it again. With some polish you will need to make another final pass with a finishing pad to remove any haze you might have. When you have got it the way you want then do your sealant and wax. Most..90% ?..of your shine will come from your prep work. The wax will add a little but is there mainly for protection.

Go to the top of the forum page..click on the Learn pic and scroll down to "How to use a PC" :waxing: Lots of good info. And of course always come back here with questions.

Good luck. :up

Thanks Lineman.

Any recommendation for a good polish? Or is the SSR2.5 & SSR1 combo the same as a polish? I am super new to this so I dont know what is what.

So here is what I gather should be the process:

Wash

Good clay

Wash

SSR2.5 (one panel at a time)

SSR1 (one panel at a time)

EX-P

Natty's Blue

Does this sound about right? I am getting the sonus pads, what pads for what jobs?

Thank again for your help.

Don't try to polish a whole panel at a time. Work a small area ~1' x 1'.

Your above process is ordered correctly.

Which pad you use for SSR2.5 depends on the severity of the swirls you're trying to remove. You'd choose from orange, yellow, green, or blue.

SSR1 would be used with a blue pad.

If you're applying the EX-P and Nattys Blue by PC, then you'll use the gray pad for those. There's no need for a pad with any aggressiveness to apply an LSP.
