Newbie to Detailing

Hello everyone,

I am new to this site and new to detailing as well. I just purchased a new 2011 black Ford Explorer and I want to keep it as shiny and protected as possible. My friend talked me into buying Xzilon X4 off of e-bay and applying it to the car. I paid $35 dollars for it, the dealer wanted $995 to apply it for me!

Anyway, I still see some swirl marks in the paint. The protection looks good, water just runs off. Any suggestions for future maintenance? Can I wax over this, should I use a detail spray? Not sure where to go from here. Any suggestions would be of great help. I am open to anything any of you have to offer.

Thank you for your time and help.

Xzilon is no more than (although at the price dealerships charge to apply it, extremely expensive) polymer.Like most polymers its clear and will highlight any surface scratches.

My best suggestion is to read up on various detailing posts and detailing guides and than ask questions on anything you don't understand.

I'm writing an article on "Detailing 101" but its not finished yet so it won't be of immediate benefit to you. Read up on 'two-bucket' wash method so you don't inflict too many scratches

Welcome and glad you didn't fall for the stealership's pricey add on. There's a ton of great info here, you can read up on and do yourself or see if there's a forum member near you and get a little 1 on 1 help.

Welcome aboard. Post your questions in the main forum section and you will get lots of feedback.
