hello all...

I was browsing the searched threads to see if I was doing something wrong perhaps but I havent found an answer. I have used random orbit polishers in the past, which is why I was excited to get a new 7424XP and give a go. I finally broke it out last weekend and to my surprise it acted more like a rotary than a random orbit - spins like crazy. In fact I have to put a ton of pressure on it to get it to stop spinning. I did add a backing plate to it with some Uber pads from Detailers Domain.... could i be doing something wrong? :errf:

thanks in advance....

It supposed to spin. You would need to put about 20lbs+ of pressure on it to get it to stop spinning completely at speed 5-6.

I know some spinning is normal but an excessive amount similar to a rotary?

Can you free spin the pad with the machine off. Some off the newer backing plates (with bolts) can lock against the counterweight when you tighten it which will cause the pad to spin like crazy (but also bog the motor).

Also if the pads you are using are smaller diameter and lower profile you will get much more rotation, even under pressure.

you were right. i took the backing plate off and saw that it was missing a spacer. I put the spacer on and the porter cable works great :embarassed:

thanks!
