Newbie Question

NEWBIE -->I know that this maybe a stupid question, but I am totally confused.

Background:

Okay... my car has been sitting in garage for about a year. I am SURE that its dirty as no one has really been taking care of it. I want to try and get its original shine back. 2001 BLACK IS3

If someone were to point me in the right direction for which products to use (including brands) and what i would need from applicators to clay bars and all that. I can't really spend more than 60 Bucks and I want to be able to do this all in about 3-4 hours.

Questions:

1. What do I need -- TOTAL including Materials like mits and chamois.

I think i need - >

Car Wash Soap

Wash Mits

Terry Cloth to Dry

Clay Bar

3M Swirl Marker Removal

Meguiars NXT Wax

2. I don't have a buffer... is there any other way to apply the polish? If so, how ?

3. I kinda need brief directions on the order and way to do all this. Like, how DO u use a clay bar?

THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH

Yogujuhere- Welcome to Autopia. You're asking for quite a bit there! Let's see....What to get for about $60, that'll do a good job by hand, that'll only take 3-4 hours...Heh heh, you're gonna need more time, no matter what.

Before someone else says it, click on the "learn" icon and read up. It's really about the process (and experience) more than products. Explanations about how to clay, or do anything else, abound here, just search on the topic of interest. Once you see all the info that's already posted, you'll understand why no one's gonna repeat it all here ;)

Short answer:

Get 100% cotton mitts to wash, a WW MF or two to dry, and some shampoo that's *at least* as good as Meg's Gold Class.

Get a clay and lube system (or use the car wash shampoo to lube).

Get som Meg's #80 speed glaze, some foam applicators, and some plush MF towels to buff it off. Use this after you clay instead of the 3M SMR. Or get a polish from 1Z (PP, MP or Wax Polish Soft). Apply as per directions on the container.

Get something to top the #80- maybe Meg's NXT or #16. Again, foam to put on, MF to buff off.

There you go, but it's gonna cost more than $60.
