Newb Q: What towels for Zaino?

Honestly, MF has become one of those things in the detailing world that is blown way out of proportion, IMHO. Its become like American luxury cars: The bigger, the better... with out consideration to nearly anything else. We now have monster fluffy, super ultra plush, PHAT, etc.

I purchased a huge package of Chinese made Microfibers from Costco for $10 (came with like 50 MF towels), WW drying towels from WalMart at $2-3 per pair, and shelled out a bit more for some "nicer" and more plushy Meguiar's/Chemical Guys towles at no more then $20 for 8 of them... and I probably paid too much even then. My recommendation, don't get too carried away because there are some OUTRAGEOUS prices out there for some of these towels.

......I also believe neither of these 2 companies sells the other's product. I believe this to be a every important textbook factor in labeling something as a "cross promotion". :nixweiss......

While I'm not necessarily agreeing or disagreeing on whether or not Sal and Leo are cross promoting (no dog in this fight) I do have to disagree with your statements above. I can promote something without selling it. For example, if you sold barbecue sauce and I sold steaks I could state on my website that "blkZ28Conv barbecue sauce is a perfect compliment to mbkintner steaks". Conversely, you could state on your website that "mbkintner steaks go great with blkZ28Conv barbecue sauce". We could each do that simply because we respect each others product and want our customers to receive what we think would be the best experience. I don't have to sell a product to promote it.

I'm hungry now. :grinno:

Currently, I like using the PB plush towels for removal, and final polish. But I am looking for something a lil softer for Z6. Ill see how the Phats and the Monsters fare in that area.

I have seen a number of posts on various websites of individuals having streaking problems with Z6 and in most cases they have been using MF towels. I have had extremely good results using 100% cotton as Sal recommends with no streaking problems in the last 5 years.

That being said the MF towels at Neatitems.com are extremely high quality and much softer and thicker than those I have seen at Target. Price is good and shipping is free.

I use PakShak towels exclusively on paint and have used Zaino for over 5 years now and never had an issue with streaking or problematic product removal et al.

Can't disagree with your perspective because I am not an expert on this subject. :o

I do agree with the respect part of your analysis and viewing cross promotion as a positive (respect via experience) rather than just a monetary sub current to boost sales.

I'm hungry now toooo. Now bring over those steaks. ;)

Don't get me wrong, that was just my opinion and I'm by no means an "expert on this subject" either.....but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night. ;)

I like my MFs, a mix of PakShak, Walmart and Target. But I find that poly MFs hold little dots of tree specs and stuff that are difficult to get out, and that don't wash out. This is true especially for the plusher ones. I spend several minutes before I use my plush MFs examining it and picking out little specs. I may have a harder time because there are trees that overhang my driveway. The 100% cotton towels don't hold particles that way. I'm thinking of switching back to all cotton for any uses touching paint.

Do the DF towels let go of particles, or hold them like MFs?

:har: MSC do you see the can of worms you opened by asking what are the best towels HAHAHA. It's just one of those topics on this BB that are matter of personal preference and if 50 reply you'll get about 40 different answers.

I'll give you my take on towels since I have some spare time. I have never jumped on the microfiber bandwagon, while I am sure they work great the performance of a microfiber, waffle weave, which ever, just never really WOW'd me over a plain good ol' cotton terry towel at least not enough to justify the price difference. Not to mention all the special attention you have to give microfibers (dont ever try washing one with other towels) when cleaning them, you just can't wash then toss in the dryer. Remember they are synthetic fibers mimicing cotton but not cotton.

So instead of buying towels that try to be like cotton (I know all say they are better than cotton) towels why not just buy cotton towels. As you may have guessed by now I use plain ol' terry cotton towels and not the cheap terry you buy at auto zone, I use the kind you would use after a shower, the towels meant for humans not cars. You can always find them cheap at JC penney, target, sears, im sure many home good outlet type places. They last forever and I like the way the terry cotton nap "bites" into any product applied to the car (for removal anyway). When they get dirty you simply toss them in the wash and dry, no special washing instructions or special detergent needs to be used. Also when using anything but a terry towel I get the feeling I am using a t-shirt or hankerchief to dry my car, all those others are so thin, give me a nice fat fluffy terry towel anytime over the thinner synthetic towels.

Well that's my $0.02 worth of info. In order to comply with the full disclosure rule (:rules: ) kidding there is no such rule, but I will say that I am not a PRO detailer, I only work on my own cars. This may be a consideration when choosing equipment/product.

Just to set the record straight... that is absolutely untrue! There is no such agreement whatsoever and to make a statement like this without first hand knowledge is not very responsible.

True! It's crazy that the simple subject of towels can spark such passion. Of course, if I thought it was trivial, I wouldn't have asked! Heck, my wife thinks I'm crazy that I've washed the car 5 times already and haven't had it a month. Meanwhile, I am going crazy because I haven't had a chance to Zaino it yet. If my neighbors think I am crazy now, wait until they see me "wax" a month old car!

Thanks for your viewpoint. Of course I need to know what amateurs like me are doing. If I could afford to do it like the pros do it, I'd just hire a pro to do it for me!

Thanks again, everyone, for your comments. I went with the Target grey MF, and to my amazement, they didn't destroy the finish!! :lol

Here's my first ever Zaino effort, just one round: Z5, Z6, Z2, Z6.

I too was sceptical about the Vroom towels. I currently have about 16 of the orange ones and 4 of the gray ones.

Have been very happy with all of them!!!
