Newb! Hows my cart looking?

Hello I'm Kaeon from Florida, and I have decided to attempt to detail my fiancée's 2007 Black Toyota Yaris Hatchback. The car has been neglected for some time now & will require a full cleaning & detail inside and out. I will be posting pictures of the car when she gets home from work. For now I wanted to introduce myself & get some initial input. Below is a screen shot of my shopping cart with autogeeks I want to make sure I am not getting any of the wrong stuff. Any input of suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I will be using some Lowes 5 Gallon Buckets

I'm assuming you already have a pressure washer? In that case great, but the foam cannon is not a necessity for maintianing a single car.

I notice a few things missing. If you already have them, great. You will need a multitude of Micro Fiber towels. Cheap ones from a big box store are fine for the interior and some quality ones for the paint. You also don't have any polishes or sealants/waxes listed. A lot of personal preferences go into those choices. I would recommend the Meg's MF system and perhaps some Menzerna PO85rd for finishing the black. My go to sealant is BFWD, especially for black.

If you already have some of these on hand I would say so. Otherwise you are going to get a ton of responses about them.

Also, you can grab two 5 gallon buckets from Home Depot and probably save yourself twenty bucks.

One other thing - I think you'll find that alot of guys on here have tried those "dimpled" pads and didn't like them. I know I didn't. Flat pads are the way to go in my opinion. 5.5" is the best overall choice for multi-purpose work.

Nth Degree,

I do have a pressure washer, I seen the thread with the foam gun vs the foam cannon, and figured I might as well get the right one first time around. However you may be on to something as I don't think it is something I NEED more or less something I WANT.

Meguiars DA Microfiber Correction System 5 Inch Starter Kit, paint correction kit, dual action polishing kit

Is this the system you were referring too?

Barry Theal,

I agree, looking at it again I think I was getting too ahead of myself, so I edited my list down.

Ahh. You grow wiser, Grasshopper.

Yes, that is the DA system I referred to. It is a great jumping off point. Do a little research on here about it. In some ways it requires slightly different technique for optimum results.

And don't forget the MF towels.

I'd change the Meguiars machine to a Griots, better machine and better warranty with a lower price. Not a fan of the micro-chenile mits either. They don't hold contaminants well, and when they actually do, its hard to remove them. Go with sponge, MF covered sponge or Mothers Sheepskin.

I only see a Mothers lambswool? is that what you meant?

It's so much fun spending other peoples money! :) Looking good!

Yes! and less painful!

So I assume the DP Shampoo will suffice for taking care of her car, other than it and the liquids that come with the Meg's kit is there any others worth adding to my cart?

You will need a good APC. OPC or Meg's APC+ (yes a gallon of APC+ is a lot, but it is not expensive and will last a long time.)

The finishing wax with the kit will protect the finish, but will not have the durability or deep gloss of other LSPs. Not a necessity at this point. You can see how you like the results first, then decide if you want something else. The advantage now, though, would be if you get free shipping with the big order.

Something like 303 Aerospace protectant might not be a bad idea for the interior as well.

I think I just need some sort of tire brush, and I am there!

I'd add some light clay. Maybe drop the pro shampoo and just get some OTC stuff (I like megs deep crystal - affordable and slick).

Looking good. You will need A LOT more MF towels, but they don't all have to be the quality of Cobra. You can find decent ones OTC for general purposes use. Clay, brushes and other things you might find you need can be purchased OTC as well. As long as you are within your budget you should be good with what you have there. You are just one over-hyped product away from being diagnosed with the disease. Welcome to the club.

Haha! There is no budget per se, but I am a very frugal person. I think I am pretty much set for right now. I will post the start and finish of the car in a new topic, thanks for all the help everyone!

For towels, a lot of people like the rolled edge towels on AG - you can get nine of them for less than the cost of the 3 cobra towels you have :)
