newB here...

kidsdoc- I just use the SG for the protection. I topped it with wax because a) I wasn't thrilled with the synthetic look b) it provided an additional sacrificial layer and c) I'm trying to use up the wax in question. This was on a vehicle I didn't want to HAVE to redo for a long time if I didn't feel like it.

You'll be fine with wax over AIO or Autoglym SRP. I use SRP topped with Collinite on my "beater" and it lasts for many months (that car is parked outside 24/7) even with winter weather.

The "marring" in question was minor (?) swirls/scratches supposedly caused by the clay. Use PLENTY of lube and good technique and you'll PROBABLY be OK. Otherwise, you'll be polishing anyhow.

You have the right idea about removing swirls/scratches. What rightlane said :up

hello guys, well here we are a bit over 2 yrs later & i'm ready to go through all this a 2nd time! just wanted to make sure i did things right & had to verify which color pads go w/ each product:

1st clay bar, then:

PI-II w/ a yellow (cma) pad, then

FI-II w/ another yellow pad, followed by

SMR w/ a white pad,

finally Klasse AIO/SG w/ grey pads

all this to be followed up the next day w/ a couple of layers of p21s

sound right? any other suggestions or words of wisdom? thanks.

kidsdoc- I think I'd only use the yellow (cutting) pad with the most aggressive product (the PI-II). Then I'd switch to white (polishing) pads for the milder products. I'd do almost all of the correction with the PI-II and the yellow pad, using milder products to remove the micromarring that the PI-II leaves behind.

Wear a mask/respirator when using PI-II, it's a high-silica dust/carcinogenic product (I'd use PI-III RC, pn 05933, instead).

Note that many/most SMRs contain a lot of fillers, which will "hide" marring (swirls/scratches/etc.) rather than remove it. The subsequent use of AIO will remove said fillers, making the marring seem to "reappear". Instead of the SMR (unless you're referring to *PI-3000 SMR*, a new product), I'd use PI-III MG (pn 05937). It's been replaced by the PI-3000 stuff but is still commonly available. Great product to have on hand, and what I use before the Klasse twins.

I'd add additional layers of KSG after each wash for a while before topping with P21S.

Wow! You found your original post after two years! :woohoo:

Does that mean your car hasn't had Autopian care for two years?
