Upcoming Z06 Corvette, fastest ever, will start at $65,800

It's official, the new Z06 will be the fastest Corvette ever. Chevrolet says the vehicle breaks the four-second barrier from 0 to 60, with a time of 3.7 seconds while still in first gear. Pricing for the newest Z06 will start at $65,800, including destination charges.

Very impressive but yet another car creeps up in price to make it more unattainable:(, so we get to see less and less on the road:down.

Some people buy them, don't drive them, and let them sit in a garage for years, then they sell. A huge waste IMO for such a supercar, but to each their own.

Sorry, bud, but that's not true.

The Museum Delivery, RPO code R8C, is a special offer where the vehicle is delivered to the owner at the National Corvette Museum across the street from the plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The participant will recieve a tour of the assembly plant and then head to the museum to find their new car on display. There, museum staff walk the new owner through an orientation on the car and then the car is either driven home from there, or delivered to the owner's local dealership. The car is then turned over to the owner and the process is complete.

I always thought that was pretty cool, but don't let them prep it:shocked !

vettes are nice but you see them all the time.

You won't be seeing these new Z06s all the time.

That statement is like saying "you see Mustangs all the time" when talking about a Cobra. 95% of the 'stangs you see are boring base V6 models, and 95% of the Corvettes you see are going to be base model C6s (still an awesome car, but a far cry from the Z06.)

This is true, and while you and I can see the difference between these cars in about 1 second, that is just not the case for the general public. Most will see it as just another vette, but if they see the GT, they will not be able to think that at all. The GT might make their head snap, and cause an accident, lol.

You kinda took one part of what I said out of context. In comparsion to a GT, you will see the general vette body style (all models) "all the time", cause you will see far fewer GTs (with that corresponding body style). Sure, we can point out the decals, wheels, and such of a Z06, but it still looks every bit like a regular vette, even if we know it isn't.

hehehe I get a kick out of this, because for most dealerships I'd say the same thing, but I think museum delivery would be a different story.

I noticed the vettes (and even pickups and cheaper cars) outside the local Chevy dealer were swirl-free and very clean. The dealership also sells and services Lambo and Lotus and I saw a Ligenfelter Z06 (yellow, with the back in that matte black... mmmm) drive out of service while I was there. They know how to prep cars there. I think I'd be content with their prep.

Hey better safe than sorry, Excuse me sir I'm gonna need to see your Autopia credentials before you touch this vehicle:D. I've noticed some newer dealerships have touchless car washes for prep and what not, now the drying part concerns me:eek:

Well, if I walked into the museum and saw any sort of swirl on my $70,000 car (plus Museum Delivery), I sure as hell wouldn't take delivery! FIX THAT!!! :D

When it comes time for my fiance and I to get a new car, you better believe I'm doing it the way... um... (who was that?) someone here did with his mother's Black Mercedes. Of course, it'll be a Subaru, so I wouldn't trust the dealer to get it right.

I have seen a couple prep jobs from Cerritos Toyota that are pretty damned good. One of my customers just got a white Prius and the paint is absolutely flawless and hurts your eyes in direct sunlight. No clay necessary as the paint is smooth as glass. I'll be applying AIO and Z2 Pro in the near future.

True, I'd rather have two Z06s than a GT. Or better yet, 3 used Z06s! :)

Now THAT, I can't understand:think: Since you can only drive one at a time, why would having 2 Z06s be better? If you thought having one Z06 and one (for example) Cayman was preferable, I could understand, but. . . :nixweiss

You could get a Ford GT and have your steering fail as you race the Z06 all the GTs were recalled becuase of the A-arms I believe.

Every company has recalls even ferrari, ford tried a new casting process and in part one control arm showed a hairline facture within the arm, it hasn't been proven that other arms were affected the same so they recalled all cars and replaced all arms with forged ones, so their actually better and ford fits the bill for you. Not bad for a car that was designed and built in what 3 years or 2. The c6 i heard has already had it's fair share of problems, nobody's perfect :D Ford took the chance with this process with porsche and ferrari use for thier peices, ford is the first north american company to take the chance with it and one arm showed fault. Corvette and GT may be similar but one is an all out supercar the other one is a pumped up sportscar.

As much as I love the GT, it just isnt in the segment to be considered direct competition for the Z06. Now what would be a good race would be the z06 and the new SVT Shelby Cobra (with a smaller blower pulley), should be close and cost nearly $30k less.

It's so much fun to take less and do more with it. I think that's why I've always loved the little 4 banger cars.

Well, I own a "little 4-banger" (Nissan Silvia K's), and it does "do more": has light, quick reflexes (though since it's "FR", it doesn't plow like a Honda), good gas mileage, and is easy to manuever on tight roads.

But what it does "less" of is (not) jump off the line with head-snapping torque, pull with authority in any gear at low RPMs, and produce a beautiful, satisfying "burble" and exhaust note, like an American V-8.

There are good points, and bad points. . . I like both types of cars, for different reasons.

Yeah, I have a tendency to like the more efficent cars also, don't usually subscribe to the "more cubic inches the better" crowd. I love the scream of a fast foreign car approaching redline.

But I will say, this Firebird that I saw the other day was just plain amazing. It was far away from me, yet I could hear it. And as it approached it got louder, and as it went by, I could feel vibrations from the beast. It really had the feel of an ol Viper, as far as the vibrations. I have never seen a Firebird like this one though, and I'm around alot of fast cars often. The engine in that thing was hooked up on a major level, something that anyone of any tastes can admire, and although I'm not a huge fan of it, I would take that car in a second, lol. I can say, a car like that one demands attention, and that is something you can't get out of anything stock.

That car makes your jaw drop at idle, forget about the redline, lol. Give me a new Z06 that will shake up chocolate milk on the dash board, and I might think about changing my tune. :D

Ah, but there's where it gets fun. You buy a Z06 as a great baseline to work with, and then start modding it until you've got a paint mixer like the ones at home depot :D
