New to this, need some help.

Hi all,



This is my first post. My dad just bought a new black car, and im in charge of maintaining it. I bought the klasse twins, and all the applicators, microfiber etc needed to take care of the paint. I was just wondering if i would need to use a more abbrasive polish than the AIO. Im assuming the paint will be in good condition when its delivered. And if i use the AIO and coat the car with SG regularly will i be able to maintain its finish. Or will clearly visible swirl marks eventually show up?? Because then i would need a PC and some intensive polishes. So just wanted to know how long i might be able to go without one if i take care of the paint.

Hi and welcome. Almost all new cars will need a claying to remove the rail dust embedded in the cc from the transport. After that, being black, and being maintained by a dealer, even if for only one wash, I'd expect swirls. Tis the nature of the black beast hehe.



The problem with the Klasse twins is they hide nothing, are a bit "plasticy" looking, expecially on black, and you might find maintaining the finish a bear when using the K twins, since all the scratches/swirls will show right through them.



You might try a more black friendly set up, like:



-Meg's 83/80/26 liquid

-Einszett PP, MP, any carnauba wax like Collinite 476s, 845, or clearkote's CMW

-Optimum has nice polishes and compounds and just follow up with a wax of your choice



Hope that helps a bit. If you plan on polishing out some minor swirls, you'll need a PC 7424, if by hand, you might try the Einszett products, as they work well by hand or machine. I think Meg's glazes also work well by hand, IIRC they are numbers 5 and 7??
 
Thanks for the quick reply. Ill look into getting some of those products, and if it gets too bad i guess ill have to get myself a PC. This car is definately gonna keep me busy. The car is a Brilliant Black Audi A6. We could have gone with a silver to avoid some of the work but it just looked so good in black we couldnt choose anything else.

Yeah, what Nimble said. I've been at this for a while and I only use the Klasse twins on one of our vehicles. IF you can get the finish perfect, and keep it that way (not easy to say the least!) then they can be an OK way to go, but I honestly wouldn't count on that.



I would *not* assume that the paint will be OK if the dealer washes it, that has seldom been my experience (sorry to say). One bad wash can really mess up a paintjob.



I'd wholeheartedly recommend the 1Z (EinsZett= "1 'Z' " in German) polishes topped with a wax from Collinite. Very effective, very user-friendly, they'd be my hands-down choice for you and I have a scad of products that I could've recommended instead. I'd go that route and put your efforts into getting your wash/dry regimen down pat (as in, figure out how to do it without marring the paint). You might oughta research washing with a foamgun, it makes marring-free washes a lot easier. Though it sounds simple, getting the dirt off the paint without scratching is very, very difficult.

Haha yea we have two other silvers. I do a detail on them once in a while and they still look like they are in perfect condition. I cant stand the sight of swirl marks on a black car. I look around and i havnt seen one black car without clearly visible swirls, so im kinda dreading this. Im going to look into getting a PC. I live in Toronto by the way. So far ive only found them online, and they are pretty expensive. Maybe next time i head down across the border ill pick one up.
